She’s among the most beautiful and most enigmatic of the legendary Bollywood stars and today, actress Dimple Kapadia celebrates her fifty-sixth birthday.
She first captivated the hearts of millions in her debut film, Bobby, in which she played an Anglo-Indian girl who romanced Rishi Kapoor. One of her most famous costumes in the film – a white polka-dot blouse tied just below the bust, worn with a black mini skirt – went on to become an iconic image in Bollywood fashion.
In fact, much before Mallika Sherawat even thought of wearing a bikini on screen, Dimple rocked a red two-piece in the same film.
However, even though she won a Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role as Bobby Braganza, Dimple left the film industry after getting married to Rajesh Khanna in 1973.
For over a decade, she stayed away from acting and chose to raise her two daughters – Twinkle and Rinkie. Only after her separation from Rajesh Khanna did she return to Bollywood in 1984.
Dimple Kapadia is not much of a party-person and you will rarely see her at Page 3 events. But when she does step out, she’s always immaculately dressed in designs by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Dimple is a huge fan / follower / client of the duo and she’s been sporting their designs since they launched their label in the Eighties.
