While numerous Bollywood stars are seen at IPL cricket matches in India, actor Akshay Kumar was the only Indian star at the India versus Pakistan match at Edbgaston Stadium in Birmigham, last Friday.
On reaching the stadium in the morning, Akshay was taken up to the ICC Hospitality Enclosure from where he enjoyed the match.
However, Akshay was there mainly to promote his film, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara. Says a source, “Akshay’s character (Shoaib) is a cricket fanatic in the film, which explains why the producers decided to send him for this match. Even the opening shot of the film’s trailer sees his character attending an India-Pakistan match. The India-Pakistan match was the best platform to garner visibility!”
On completion of the first forty overs, he was invited on the ground by Sanjay Manjrekar to talk about the film, much to the delight of his cheering fans.
Akshay was holidaying with his family in New York and had to cut his holiday short to attend this promotion.
