Last evening in Mumbai, we witnessed a truly heartening event where actor John Abraham took time out of his hectic schedule to make one of his mother’s fondest dreams come true – to coach her famous son to play basketball.
John’s mother, Firoza Irani Abraham, was the basketball coach in his school, Bombay Scottish. “But because my brother and I were embarrassed to have our mum teach in our school, she left and joined another school,” he cheekily confessed to the assembled crowd.
Said Firoza Irani Abraham, “Today I recollect my days as a basketball coach and I am spellbound seeing John make my dream come true. It is the happiest moment of my life.”
As a part of P&G’s ‘Thank You Mom’ initiative, John indulged his mother as they played a round of basketball in front of the assembled crowd. And for once, the center of attention was not John, but the sporting lady who was mobbed with questions on John’s growing-up years.
Take a look at the fun they had.
We caught up with John for two minutes after the event and here’s what he told us:
Team MM: What does the famous Bollywood dialogue – Mere paas maa hain – mean to you?
John Abraham: I think it’s the most meaningful dialogue which can ever exist because (Mere paas maa hain) a mother is the most special thing you can ever have.
Team MM: What is the most special thing you have ever done for your mom?
John Abraham: I think just just being around and giving of your time is most special because that is what my mother told me. She said – We dont want your money. We want your time – so I think that’s special.
