India Bridal Week took us through a Pan-European journey on Saturday night, starting with The Great Gatsby inspired Adarsh Gill collection. Adarsh started with a black and bling line of cocktail wear that took us straight back to the Roaring 20’s. Adarsh is veteran of the industry, known her modern cuts, and she chose colours in rich & vibrant, blacks, bright oranges, magenta pinks, and emerald greens.
Now in her 70’s. Adarsh still pushes the envelope. We saw power shoulders on jacket style blouses paired with contoured lehengas, and flaming orange kurtas teamed with palazzo pants with a gold net overlay. There has always been a Parisian chicness to Adarsh’s designs. Her trademark elegant embellishments were even seen on the menswear collection. If bling is your thing, this was definitely a collection for you.
Closing her show was Esha Gupta, in a red and gold lengha. Sitting up-front supporting Adarsh were Sunanda Tharoor, Sharmila Tagore, Queenie Singh, and Suhel Seth, among others.
Next up was Suneet Varma‘s The Golden Bracelet collection, which took us a bit further south (and much farther back in time), to Rome in the days of Caesar. Suneet has never been one to shy away from opulence, as evidenced by the elaborate backdrop for the show. Grecian style drapes, block printing, macramé, khari, Swarovski, and intricate lace were all part of his collection.
There were some pieces that reminded us of Suneet’s younger days, especially the gold gladiator style blouse.
Chitrangda Singh, in a red Swarovski-encrusted lehenga, was one of the most stunning showstoppers of week. She truly has a glow about her.
It was an eclectic mix of different styles – romance, edginess, and elegance!
Day 4 of India Bridal Week was all about showing how well European detailing can mix with Indian silhouettes. What a night!
