In addition to watching your favorite patriotic movies today, you can show your pride with new fashions from two enterprising designers this Independence Day.

Aniket Satam, one of our favourites from the younger lot of upcoming designers, encourages you to unleash your inner tigress, and celebrate the regal grace of our national animal.

“This endangered species of magnificent cats has inspired my capsule collection of smart separates and concept dresses dedicated to the sensual design features of the regal Bengal Tiger,” he explains.

The collection features designs with strategic stripe appliques and hand block print tiger motifs on habotai silk and silk georgette, to depict the alarming population decline of the Royal Bengal Tiger.

Designer Amy Billimoria went the traditional Indian route, and designed sarees inspired by India and the national flag.

Modeled by actress Nagma, Amy explains, “The saree I have designed for Nagma is inspired by the national flag and the traditional rich heritage of the Indian culture. It’s a beautiful blend of colors using various tie-dye techniques along with badla work. The sari is embellished with a rich brocade woven border inspired by the Ashoka Chakra. Complementing the look is a contemporary bandhgala choli inspired by Sanskrit shlokas.”
