Anita Dongre presented her Jaipur Bride 2013 collection at Lakme Fashion Week on Friday. The beautiful garments were paired with some live Rajasthani folksy-rock music. It was definitely a good show, and the audience applause proved it. Here are five things we loved most!

1. The influence

The collection was a celebration of the rich Rajasthani culture, from ‘Bandhani’ to ‘bandi’. Anita said of her collection’s Jantar Mantar influence, “I am fascinated by it. It’s a scientific marvel and I want the world to know about it.”

2. Fun sangeet looks

Everyone’s favorite Indian wedding event is the sangeet, and this collection offered looks that are fun and light for jumping around, while still maintaining a sense of elegance.

3. Sona Mohapatra

Sona Mohapatra and her musicians brought down the house with their performance. She played a ‘sutra-dhar’ type piece for the show, and it was brilliant. The audience was singing along, and we even caught designer Kallol Datta cheering them on. It was a good energy all around.

4. whites

From the moment the show started, the buzz was all about the whites. Anita displayed her love for purity and romance simultaneously – the verdict… triumphant!

5. modern play on tradition

Anita’s vision for the modern Indian wedding and respect for tradition came alive on runway. The use of ‘dhoti’-like draping, ‘gotapati’ embroidery and ‘bandhani’ were a perfect embodiment of that vision.

The Jaipur Bride 2013 collection was all that the audience expected it to be. We saw a fun colour palette for wedding functions which included bright ‘gulabi’ pink, lime green and ink blue. The show was stretched a bit longer than usual because of the musical performance, but we loved what we saw!
