Adidas Originals Superstar

The worlds most iconic sneaker, the Superstar by adidas, was introduced in 1969, and went on to become one of the major influences in the history of basketball culture. Before we introduce the all new superstar collection, let’s take a stroll down memory lane back to the year when the world’s most iconic shoes were born.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar in Superstar

“The Cap” aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the most notable user of the Superstar, and but by the mid 1970’s over 75% of NBA players sported these unrivaled shoes. Soon it became the most in-style basketball shoe, and was worn by many of the best players in the NBA and NCAA. The design was unique with all-leather uppers, non-marking rubber soles, and the famous rubber “shell-toe”.

Run-DMC

Rappers Run-DMC were the first to wear the Superstar with the tongues pushed out and laces undone, creating a fashion statement that is popular even today. In 1986, they released a song called My adidas to pay tribute to the beat of the street. Watch the video here:

The Superstar is not just a basketball shoe anymore, but it remains a symbol of hip-hop culture, and is still the most sought after street fashion sneaker today. Global icons like David Beckham, Jay Z, Rihanna, Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Fox, and many others, have been spotted wearing their Superstars!
