In conversation with Anupama Chopra on The Front Row this week is Shahid Kapoor, who speaks about his younger days and how he was absolutely sure that he would become a star. For those who don’t know, Shahid started off as a background dancer in films like Dil To Pagal Hai (he danced behind Karisma in Le Gayi) and Taal (behind Aishwarya in Kahin Aag Lage). But even though he was only in the background at that time, the actor maintains that he thought he was a complete hotshot. Here’s the excerpt!

Anupama Chopra: Shahid, you were a back-up dancer in Dil To Pagal Hai and Taal. When you were part of the crowd, watching Shah Rukh Khan dance with Karisma Kapoor, did you ever imagine that one day you would be a star yourself?

Shahid Kapoor: Absolutely. If you see how I was in college, I was a skinny, scrawny boy and I used to look like a umbrella or a broom because I had lot of hair on my head. I would roam around with this CD case around my waist, loose jeans and tight T-shirt. I used to enter with my bike, with shades and everything, so I was convinced that “Main toh full hero hoon boss. Mujhe toh yahan aane mein koi rok nahin sakta.” Now when I look back it’s a little embarrassing but that time I was fully convinced and probably if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be where I am today. You need to have that kind of faith and belief in yourself. However stupid it might be, you need to have it.
