My Gym Session 5 – Veda Tries a New Class

Home With Heena
Veda at My Gym

Now that Veda is 14th months old, it was time for her to graduate to the next class (“Waddlers”) at My Gym Children’s Fitness Center.  We had started Veda in the “Tiny Tots” class which is for babies 7 – 13 months old.   My Gym will allow your child to continue attending this class if your baby prefers and they can make the transition when they are ready.  While Veda still isn’t fully walking by herself, I thought it might be more motivating for her to be in a class with the older babies!

Getting ready to Explore

This session wasn’t too different from the Tiny Tots class, thus it was an easy transition.   The only real difference is that the class is 15min longer, which means more play time! J  The session followed the standard structure of circle time warm up, exploring the gym, scheduled activities, free-play and a winding down puppet song.

Warm-up Circle Time with Monia

This weeks activities started with a sort of ring toss game.  Though for these babies, it was more of a pull the rings off of the cones game.  The babies were encouraged to walk/crawl around and take the rings off of the different cones.

The My Gym staff had then set up a Balance Beam station and a Pull-up bar station.  Veda wasn’t that into the Pull-up bar this time, but she did attempt the Balance Beam.  Considering she can’t walk on flat ground properly yet, it was a bit of a challenge. But at least she tried! 🙂

Veda had the most fun on the Rainbow Slide.  This was basically just a big rainbow colored cloth on which the babies could lay down.  Then the My Gym staff would pull them down the big padded ramp.  She could have done this over and over, but we had to give the other babies a turn. 😉

During her free time to explore, she began by visiting her favorite Ball pit.  She then surprised me and went to explore the little ramp.  In previous visits, she never wanted to attempt the climb.  It was great to see her becoming more adventurous!

This week, the swings set up was very unique.  They had created a big Hammock Swing for multiple babies to sit on together.  Veda waited for all the other babies to get off and swung lazily inside by herself.

Another really fun activity My Gym had set up for this class was a Beach Ball kicking game.  Many colorful balls were scattered about the room and the parents could swing their babies around to help them kick the balls.  A fun workout for both Mommy (or Daddy) and baby!

During the wind-down free playtime, the My Gym staff encourages parents to leave the babies to play on their own.  They had so many toys out that Veda couldn’t decide where to start!

Free-play Time

I think this new Waddlers class (for ages 14 – 22 months old) is a great option for Veda.  She really enjoyed herself and I think its good to push her limits a bit to help with her development.
