How many of us have looked into our wardrobe that’s almost bursting at the seams and felt we have nothing to wear? Most of the time, we’re just too overwhelmed and reach for the same old clothes. While we wish we had credit cards with sky-high limits, I have listed 5 ways to get more mileage out of your wardrobe.

1. Do More With Your Jewellery

Layering

Jewellery is the cheapest and best way to update your look. If you already have tons of it, I suggest layering two necklaces together. Pair a shorter, statement necklace with a longer one like Sarah Jessica Parker. Or a delicate one with a chunkier one. Layer bracelets, cuffs for a fun casual look, Deepika Padukone loves doing this.

2. Arrange Your Wardrobe

Do you know we often wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time? To combat this, arrange your outfits in one line. Whatever has been worn goes to the back of the line. Another way is to arrange your hangers. You can turn the hanger hooks inwards to indicate unworn clothes and outwards for worn clothes or vice versa.

3. Invest in Basics

Rule of thumb: spend as much as you can in wardrobe basics such as a good handbag, a little black dress, good jeans and a good pair of heels. Don’t spend too much on trendy items. Not only will these basics last you a long time but they are also the building blocks of your wardrobe.

4. Swap Your Stuff

Have a pair of heels that’s gathering dust or a bright top that sticks out like a sore thumb in your mostly monochromatic wardrobe? Why not have a swap party with your girlfriends?
You might get to unearth quite a few goodies.

5. Re Think Your Silhouette

Most items in your closet can be great for multi-tasking; your denim shirt can be worn over a white/black vest. A black tee worn over your colourful dress converts it into a skirt. Or wear a denim shirt over your jeans to make it appear as a blouse. Throw on your blazer over a crop top to give it some more polish a la Sonam Kapoor. The sky is the limit.
