Kangana Ranaut is known to push the envelope when it comes to her fashion choices. The actress is rarely boring, and in fact, she often gravitates towards more costume-y looks – but, as it turns out, this is a conscious decision on her part. Since she’s the guest on The Front Row this week, Anupama Chopra asks her where her fashion sense comes from. Read on to see her answer – it’s definitely not what I was expecting, and it may surprise you too!

Anupama Chopra: Where does your spectacular fashion sense come from?

Kangana Ranaut: It all happened since I came to Mumbai, traveling, seeing the world and reading and learning about different cultures. Also there’s a strong sense of overcompensating for the fact that I come from a small town and that I’ve been made to feel that I’m somebody that doesn’t belong here.  It helped me to grow into this person who’s very stylish versus other people who are Miss Worlds or supermodels or somebody’s daughter and don’t feel that much pressure. It’s helped me learn to fit in but at least be somebody who deserves to be here and not just somebody who happened to be here.

Speaking of fashion choices, the actress wore a dress from Nikhil Thampi‘s Cruise Collection:
