After I put this photo on my Instagram profile last night, a number of Shanatics wrote in and asked me to share a few more pix from this party and also to give them some more details on the image. So here goes….
Back in 2002, my friend Nutan Bajaj (who unfortunately passed on a year ago) hosted the launch party for Mumbai’s very first Kashmiri restaurant, called Poush, which was opened by the genial Om Takoo.
Nutan’s sister was married to director Ken Ghosh at the time and since Ken had just launched his film Ishq Vishk (2002), he brought along his two new young stars – Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao.
As we sat around a make-shift Kashmiri shikara and enjoyed endless cups of kava (Kashmiri tea) and some supremely exotic food, we all chatted about the new film.
Even Shahid’s mother, Nilima Azim, was at the party along with many other famous people like Rohit Roy, Gaurav Chopra and Achla Sachdev.
In fact, what’s interesting is that in the next two weeks, Om Takoo will be opening a branch of Poush at Phoenix Market City in Kurla. And while we don’t know if Shahid and Amrita are confirmed on the guest list, we’ll definitely keep you posted.
