Ms. Marvel
Ms. Marvel a.k.a. Kamala Khan

The world of comic books has – of late – taken it in their stride to include minorities into their story lines and in some cases, have even launched individual comic titles to cater to various minority (or marginalized) groups.

For instance, Archie comics introduced the gay character, Kevin Keller, in a Veronica comic and when the character became a success, they spun-off a series of stand-alone Kevin Keller comics.

Post that, DC comics reintroduced the Green Lantern as a gay character too.

Now, after embracing diverse sexuality, Marvel is wooing the Islamic world by launching a new comic where the protagonist is a Muslim girl with super powers. Called Ms. Marvel, the comic will revolve around the life and times of Kamala Khan.

As exciting as it sounds, we can’t help wondering if the timing of this concept has been inspired by a certain super girl who has made waves across the road for her bravery and fortitude – Malala Yousafzai.

If ever there was a modern-day superwoman from the Muslim world, it would have to be Malala. So we hope that creators Sana Amanat and G. Willow Willson take inspiration from her for their new comic in the future.
