Team MissMalini
Team MissMalini

We already told you how we dressed up as some of our favourite Bollywood characters, and this time around Team MissMalini took it a step further by dressing up as villains! This was Nowshad‘s pick, and since it was for Halloween, villains made the best choice. We had three Gabbars, two Crime Master Gogos, one Sambha, one Sonia Roy, one Madam Maya and one Prem Chopra! Here’s how we got our looks, and how you can ape them if you’d ever like to!

MissMalini – Gabbar Singh (Sholay)

Marv D’Souza says:

Malini wanted to be Gabbar Singh from Sholay, but a female personification of the character. Even though we were doing costumes, the look had to be fun with a mix of fantasy and fashion. So the breathy net shirt in a military green tone looked tres chic with a pair of black lace shorts. The fake bullet belts were sourced from Bollywood Hollywood. The creme de la creme was her make-up by the fabulous Elton Fernandez.

Nowshad Rizwanullah – Crime Master Gogo (Andaz Apna Apna)

Marv D’Souza says:

Come Halloween 2013 at the office and Nowshad would be Crime Master Gogo, that was decided! A dracula cape was fashioned into one for Crime Master Gogo and super cool pirate gun made a great weapon for the character. Now the costume was half the part, the make up was the other integral part. Dhruvi tried on Nowshad a good number of variations of the fake moustache, until she finally got it right.

Ranjit Rodricks – Gabbar Singh (Sholay)

Ranjit Rodricks says:

My original idea was to come dressed as Mogambo. However, when I went to the costume shop to hire the iconic Mogambo jacket, it was already rented out. Blame it on Halloween.

The shop-keeper then suggested that since I was portly enough, I should go dressed as Gabbar Singh from Sholay. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too kicked on the idea but had to relent due to the lack of availability of any other Bollywood villain costume.

Marv D’Souza – Prem Chopra

Marv D’Souza says:

I had no clue who to be… until I found an old double breasted blazer in my wardrobe, and it hit me! I will be Prem Chopra or any of those bad rich men from the mid eighties. I had my drawn-on fake moustache (courtesy Dhruvi) and my fake pipe, all I needed was a corny/evil giggle and a dialogue, “Prem Naam hai mera…”

Amruta Khatavkar – Sonia Roy (Aitraaz)

Amruta Khatavkar says:

I picked the role of Priyanka Chopra as ‘Sonia Roy’ from Aitraaz. I really liked her performance in this movie as an ambitious woman who accuses an employee of sexual harassment. The look was simple ’cause I had to wear a plain white shirt and blue denims. I added red lips for that oomph factor.

Rashmi Daryanani – Crime Master Gogo (Andaz Apna Apna)

Rashmi Daryanani says:

It’s not that easy to find a female villain in Bollywood, which is why I was sure from the start that I would end up going as the female equivalent of a male villain. I threw around a few ideas in my head, but I kind of always knew that ultimately I would want to base my look on Crime Master Gogo from Andaz Apna Apna, since I love that character. The good thing is that it was a relatively easy outfit, since he wore all black and a cape. I paired a basic black t-shirt with black leggings and a red ribbon around my waist for the belt. The cape was a little trickier since I didn’t have one, but ultimately I ended up stealing some unused red material from my mum’s closet and tying it around my neck. And since I decided I was going as the female equivalent – Crime Mistress Gogi, I called myself – I had the liberty to switch out the moustache for red lips (Ruby Woo, in case you lipstick addicts are wondering)! As for my weapon, I picked up one of those Diwali toy guns from Lower Parel station.

Karen Alfonso – Gabbar (Sholay)

Karen Alfonso says:

I’m not too familiar with Bollywood, more so villains. Sholay is one of the few classic Bollywood movies I’ve watched and Gabbar Singh’s role seemed like my best bet. So I chose a green military shirt, that’s a closet staple that I paired with blue jeans. New age Gabbar!

Mike Melli – Sambha (Sholay)

Marv D’Souza says:

Mike Melli was clueless about his choice of Bollywood villain, but that never stops him. I suggested that since he had a beard, he could be Sambha aka Mac Mohan in Sholay. All he needed was a blue shirt, white pants, a gun and bullets. Mike perfected the grey hair with a bit of baby powder, and carved his beard to impeccably channel the Sambha in him.

Dhruvi Shah – Madam Maya (Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi)

Dhruvi Shah says:

Our Bollywood villains’ dress-up theme was a toughie. When you think of Bollywood villains, you immediately think of Gabbar Singh or some other male villains. The first female villain that comes to mind is Kajol from Gupt. In terms of costume, however, there wasn’t much place for experimentation. And then I remembered Rekha! She played Madam Maya in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and was completely badass. I watched scenes from the movie and she basically wore a single colour, but her accessories were totally over the top, gold and bling! I paired a black shirt with black jeans, black booties and a black winter coat. But I accessorised way too much. I had the most fun making a fake mole to match Rekha’s.

We also had a ton of fun using this Bollywood villain mix as inspiration and making our very own Halloween one:

It was a ball shooting for this, and you can’t imagine the number of guns that were waving around at the Team MissMalini headquarters. #JustAnotherDayAtTheOffice

And there’s a blooper reel, of course:

We’re obviously looking forward to our next dress-up day this month, and this time around we’re going to take a departure from Bollywood! While you wait to see what we come up with, check out a lot more pictures from our Halloween fun:
