Dance Moves from 2013
Dance Moves from 2013

It’s my favourite season of all time – wedding season! And we all know what the best part about weddings are: the Sangeet ceremonies. In fact, if it were up to me, life would just be one perpetual Sangeet function after another. It’s probably the only time in our lives where – just like in our Bollywood films – a song will play and everyone will simultaneously break out into the same dance move. So to ensure that you’re not left stranded this wedding season, I’ve listed ten of the most popular Bollywood dance moves from this year that you absolutely must copy on the dance floor. They’re all fairly easy, so even if you’re not much of a dancer, you can fake it just by using one of these signature steps. No more sitting on the sidelines – it’s time to do that booty shake, booty shake! (PS: Downing two shots before you hit the dance floor is optional recommended.)

Psst! Click the hyperlinked lyrics below each GIF image if you want to see the whole song and and dance routine! 🙂 And don’t forget to see our earlier roundup of 7 awesome dance songs from 2013!

1) Lat Lag Gayee

“Lat yeh ghalat lag gayi…”

Jacqueline Fernandez is fantastic in this song, but if you copied all her moves you’d probably end up scandalising some aunties and uncles. Just incorporate this move and you’ll be sorted.

Movie: Race 2

2) Badtameez Dil

“Badtameez dil, badtameez dil, badtameez dil maane na, maane na…”

Let’s be real, most of us wouldn’t be able to mimic all of Ranbir‘s moves even if we wanted to. Luckily, the core move isn’t all that difficult and can be easily done.

Movie: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

3) Balam Pichkari

“Toh lattoo padosan ki bhabhi ho gayi…”

I know there are a lot of people who are tired of hearing this song, but sorry: there’s no chance you’re going to escape it at a Sangeet. So suck it up and learn the move. Oh, and also practice those thoomkas, because you’ll need it.

Movie: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

4) Lungi Dance

“Lungi dance, lungi dance, lungi dance, lungi dance…”

The song’s lyrics say it all: “disco mein jab yeh gaana bajega, on the floor aana padega.” In all likelihood you won’t be wearing a lungi, but that’s all completely irrelevant. You better hitch up your imaginary lungi and get to work. After all: “lungi ko uthana padega, step karke dikhana padega”

Movie: Chennai Express

5) 1 2 3 4

“Booty shake, booty shake…”

If you were wondering, here’s the best way to do this move: a cross between a thoomka and an actual, you know, booty shake. Keep the real butt-shaking for Tooh – which will, of course, play during the night as well.

Movie: Chennai Express

6) Party All Night

“Aunty police bhulalegi…”

This is the perfect song for such a night, because it accurately summarises everyone’s state of mind. The best part? This song is a Godsend for all non-dancers, because there’s no real move you can do. You’ll just be waving your hands around all throughout Party All Night, and that’s pretty much the point. You’re welcome.

Movie: Boss

7) Tattad Tattad

“Tattad tattad tattad tattad…”

Ladies, be careful with this one because you don’t want to ruin what you spent hours fixing in the salon. And make sure you’re using that Head N’ Shoulders a few days before the wedding. #JustSaying.

Movie: Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela

8) Tooh

“Left right kare chain churaaye… Tooh-tooh tooh-tooh tooh…”

This is the song where you’re really expected to let loose, especially if it’s a Punjabi wedding. The moves you’re copying aren’t even technically great; you’re just jumping around. Go wild.

Movie: Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

9) Chingam Chabake

“O chhede hume chingam chabake…”

I mean, this song kind of makes no sense, but who really cares? Get this move and the chumbak laga ke one right. You can do whatever else you want in between; it doesn’t matter.

Movie: Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

10) Gandi Baat

“Gandi baat, gandi gandi gandi gandi gandi baat…”

It’s one of the newest songs this season, so it’s a hot bet to play at Sangeets – especially post 1am, when the music is getting progressively shady (and everyone is getting progressively drunk). No one will judge you for your pelvic thrusts then.

Movie: R… Rajkumar
