5 Things We Liked at Raghavandra Rathore’s India Bridal Week Show

One of the things which clearly stood out at Raghavendra Rathore‘s fashion show at the India Bridal Week in Mumbai last night was his fabulous men’s wear.

Regal, royal and vintage in look, Rathore channeled his aristocratic lifestyle into his creations and infused them with a touch of 1920’s nostalgia.

We take a look at five things (including his women’s wear) that impressed us in particular:

PINK FOR MEN:

Rathore showed two ensembles in pink, for men. One was a baby pink sleeveless jacket worn over a kurta while the other was a bright fuchsia pink kurta with a purple waist coat. Both were worn over white slim-fitting bottoms.

CLASSIC JODHPUR PANTS:

Nothing gives up a regal and royal vibe as much as the classic Jodhpur-style pants. This style was made popular in England during the reign of Queen Victoria by Sir Pratap Singh, the son of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. These were then adapted into riding breeches.

Over a century later, Rathore successfully pairs his jodhpurs with vibrantly coloured shirts and waistcoats for a dramatic and stylish effect.

SHERWANIS FOR WOMEN:

Androgyny has been a fashion staple ever since 1966 when the iconic Yves Saint Laurent designed the tuxedo suit for women. He was seen by many to have empowered women by dressing them in a men’s suit, albeit with a feminine touch.

Raghavendra Rathore styled some of his female models in an androgynous fashion by having them wear slim-fitting sherwanis with pencil pants.

JACKETS OVER SAREES:

Even though we’ve seen this style before by other designers as well, we like the jacket-over-saree silhouette. Rathore teamed a red silk sari with gold gotta border with a black silk embroidered jacket.

DIA MIRZA

Actress Dia Mirza was Raghavendra’s celebrity / Bollywood showstopper and she looked resplendent in a red taffeta tucked bias-cut long skirt with a black heavily embroidered bandhgala jacket worn over it.
