The first day of India Resortwear Fashion Week saw some extremely talented designers show off fun, vibrant and trendy silhouettes for the party season ahead.
From crop tops and swimwear to comfortable pajamas and brightly coloured kaftans, there was something for everyone to pick from.
Team MissMalini explores key elements that caught our eye at each of the five designers’ shows on day 1.
MUTED PASTEL HUES BY NISHKA LULLA:
Nishka Lulla kept her colour palette muted and light. Instead of using the tried and tested formula of bright hues to grab eyeballs, Nishka chose to let her languid silhouettes do the talking. Sheer crop tops over bikinis and shorts, long loose dresses and a wrap sheer dress over a mini dress were among the winners in this collection.
VIBRANT PRINTS BY PRIA KATARIA PURI:
Popularly known as the kaftan queen, Pria Kataria Puri displayed a line which was a signature of her style – bold and vibrant.
Defined by bright colours like pink, orange, green and turquoise blue, Pria’s printed silhouettes were embellished with tassels, sequin and crystal work.
Sarongs for men, belted sarees, jumpsuits and sexy cocktail dresses with lots of bling detailing were some of her sharper designs.
MEN’S WEAR BY VAROIN MARWAH:
Red, white and blue – these three colours dominated the crisp and clean collection by designer Varoin Marwah, a new name on the fashion scene.
Fashioned from linens, cottons and cotton blends, some of Varoin’s jackets, shorts and shirts had tree and leaf motifs embroidered on to them. Slick!
SARONG DRAPES BY RAMONA NARANG:
Nothing defines resort wear as much as a sarong. Socialite Ramona Narang gets it right by not only pairing her bright sarongs with swimwear, but also incorporates the sarong drape into her maxi and strapless dresses. Chic!
DESTINATION TROUSSEAU WEAR BY ARCHANA KOCHHAR:
With so many Indians opting for destination weddings, resort locations like Goa, Bali and Bangkok are fast becoming popular places to tie the knot. Hence, it’s imperative to have a few dressy outfits for those cocktail parties. They needn’t be overly embellished but they need to be bright enough to look festive. Check out what Archana Kochhar has in store for the bride and groom’s trousseau:
