Chitrangda Singh

Chitrangda Singh made her Bollywood debut with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi back in 2005, delivering a performance that won her praise from audiences and critics. Still, offers weren’t pouring in post the release of that film, and her next two movies hit theatres only in 2008 and 2011. Her first mainstream flick was Desi Boyz! in 2011, and after that period she had more offers: Inkaar, I, Me Aur Mein, and an item song in Joker.

Biggest Controversies:

Alleged split with husband Jyoti Randhawa: Chitrangda has been married to husband Jyoti Randhawa for over a decade, but earlier this year, reports began surfacing that the two were getting a divorce. According to reports, the couple had filed a divorce plea in family court, citing irreconcilable differences. Since the two live in Delhi, reports claimed that the reason for the split was possibly them being apart for long periods – as Chitrangda signed on more films, she was required to spend longer stretches of time in Mumbai. However, Chitrangda has denied this news, saying that they were spotted at the family court to settle a property dispute. And according to Jyoti, they are managing their long distance relationship, even though it’s difficult: “A long distance relationship is tough to handle since both of us are traveling. Luckily, our son is very understanding and mature. So far, we have lucky that we are able to manage our home well. I stay at home when she is working, and when I have to go for golf tournaments, she returns home. So one of us is always there for Zorawar.”

Comments by Yo Yo Honey Singh: Singer/rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has been extremely vocal about his love for Chitrangda Singh, even going so far as to dedicate a rap to her:

“Maana tujhse pehle maine kaiyyon ko phera hai,
Kaiyyon ko apne jaadu mein ghera hai,
Par aaj, agar, tu haan kar de,
Toh bhagwaan ki kasam, phir yeh Yo Yo tera hai”

(“I admit that, before you, I’ve taken a lot of people out,
I’ve captured a lot of people with my charm,
But today, if you say yes to me,
Then I swear to God, Yo Yo is yours”)

And when he says that he’s taken a lot of people out, he’s not joking – according to the singer, he has “562 girlfriends,” but will be willing to leave them all if he gets Chitrangda. “Chitrangda isn’t from earth. She’s from Pandora. Woh ek alag planet se hi hai, she’s that beautiful,” Honey Singh stated. He even claimed that he would be willing to adopt her son, if it came down to it.

Chitrangda wasn’t too pleased about those comments, though, and apparently requested Yo Yo to stop speaking about her in public. And when asked during a media event about his comments, Chitrangda admitted that she did not appreciate his comments: “I don’t think the word ‘admiration’ is appropriate for something as bizarre as this. I recently read that interview. Trust me, it totally freaked me out. It’s not normal and certainly not flattering.”

Post that, Honey Singh claimed that his statements in the interview were twisted to make it sound like he was waiting to marry her. “My admiration for Chitrangda is entirely academic. I look at her beauty as I would look at a beautiful picture in a coffee
table book,” is what the singer claimed.

Juicy Offscreen Quotes:

“I still haven’t figured out my forte. I haven’t done enough to know what exactly works. Even Smita Patil experimented. Every actor, director or anyone involved in this creative field wants to experiment. Every choice I make may not work but I still want to make a choice to be different.”

“I guess you need to be perceived as a commercial star [to break into the big league]. I’m not a commercial star like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif or Priyanka Chopra. It’s difficult to break images in the industry.”

“It took me fours years to completely realise that I’m happiest when I’m acting and it is when I’m truly in my element.”

“I have to love that character that I’m going to play. Even if it’s wicked, I have to love that wicked person.”

“I was married when I did Hazaaron and wouldn’t have been in it if my husband hadn’t supported me. He’s a professional sportsman himself and he understands that when you have talent you’ve got to do something about it.”

“I hope I remain passionate about whatever I do. I hope I remain always inspired in my life. I think inspiration is a blessing. To always be working. To always be constructive and creative and do something. To be able to love and be loved – I think that’s very, very important. A good bank balance too, because shopping is really important too.”
