How to wear which shoe
How to wear which shoe

Shoes, which woman does not love them? It’s never one pair but 3 or 4 and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Imelda Marcos, wife of the then President of Philippines was notorious for owning thousands of pairs of shoes. While we all might have some sort of Marcos syndrome in us, we might not necessarily know which shoes go with what outfit. While it’s not exactly rocket science, some of us are a bit, err sartorially challenged. If you want to know what shoes go with what outfit, I’m going to give you the 411.

Ballet Flats:

Ballet flats are multi-taskers, they work well with both casual and formal shoes. You can wear them with skinny jeans and a dressy top or a basic t-shirt. For formal dos, wear them with midi-length dresses. Avoid maxi-dresses with ballet flats as it will look too heavy.

Thong Sandals:

I love thong sandals, they’re a stylish option compared to flip flops and can be worn with anything from flowy maxi-dresses to ripped jeans. Since they’re a casual shoe option, wearing with anything else is a strict no-no. Deepika Padukone loves her thong sandals – they’re something of a staple for her.

Wedges:

My personal favourite – I love wedges because of the comfort factor, yet it gives me the height of the heel. Wedges are chunky, so it’s best if you wear them with streamlined outfits. Jeans and maxi dresses are a great option. Don’t wear them with pencil skirts or too tight dresses, else it will look too much with your outfit.

Stilettos:

Some people can’t do without a heel. I don’t fall into that category thankfully, but I love admiring them. Stilettos look good with pencil skirts, tight dresses and gowns. Rule of thumb:

  • If wearing a short skirt, ensure you don’t go for a very high heel as it will make you look too trashy.
  • Nude stilettos are great leg lengtheners. They make your legs look endless, so if you’re on the shorter side, make sure you pick one.
  • If there’s too much fabric, forego a pump and pick a strappy stiletto instead.
