Season 4 of Koffee With Karan seems to be unearthing some of the best kept secrets from the movers and shakers in Bollywood. While Rashmi has been giving us summaries of the episodes, I’ve found a little something worth sharing from last weekend’s episode that featured Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan.

Like we told you, in this episode, Farhan owned up to having OCD and spoke about how he is not too thrilled when things are not arranged in a certain way. For example, he commented that the pillow on Karan’s set bothered him the last time he was on the show!

In fact, the trio also spoke about Farhan’s refusal to get into a dirty sea on the sets of Luck by Chance (the quote didn’t make it into the full episode, but was released as a deleted scene on YouTube). However, Farhan’s case is not too serious – when he was probsed further by Karan, he mentioned that people at home and close friends have learned to adjust with his ways and are not disturbed by his OCD. Perhaps because it only bothers him when his stuff is out of place, not anyone else’s! He is totally okay if someone else’s room is in complete disaster.

But what exactly is OCD? OCD is short for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a kind of anxiety disorder. People with OCD feel the need to check things repeatedly. They might also have certain thoughts or perform unnecessary routines and rituals over and over again. In certain cases, they have an obsessive need for order and precision.

Our darling Farhan is, however, not at all alone. Let’s take a look at which other celebrities (international and Indian!) have got the dreaded OCD:

International

1. David Beckham

Beckham has got an obsession with pairing items and organising them by colour or type. No wonder he keeps scoring the goals – he doesn’t settle for one, it has to be two, four or six!

2. Leonardo di Caprio

This Wolf of Wall Street was obsessed with sidewalks as a child, often going back over his walking routes to repeatedly step on cracks or gum stains. His OCD apparently helped him develop his character in The Aviator.

3. Justin Timberlake

Justin apparently has got more than one type of OCD. Some of the things he struggles with are making sure everything is lined up in the right angle and having certain foods in the fridge.

4. Martin Scorsese

Scorsese took his OCD and made money out of it! He addressed the condition in his movie The Aviator. Smart!

Indian

1. Preity Zinta

In the ‘Live my Life’ episode, it was revealed that Preity is a cleanliness freak. She simply can’t stand a dirty space, especially the bathrooms.

2. Priyanka Chopra

In her interview with Times of India, PeeCee was quoted as saying, “I can’t stop myself from getting excessively involved with the work I take on. Honestly, I drive myself to a point of no return when it comes to any part that I undertake in a film. I’m just so involved that it starts to hurt.” OCD or not, it’s certainly dedication!

3. Ajay Devgan

Ajay has an intense disgust for smelly fingers, which is why he doesn’t use his fingers to touch food. In a TOI interview, he admitted that he even eats even dhal and roti with a knife and fork. So when you meet him next, just give the man a hug!

While at this, it is important to note that every one of us experiences worries, doubts, disgusts or fears. It is indeed the most natural thing for us humans. These symptoms of worry and doubt don’t qualify you as having OCD.

OCD is a far more serious condition, but then again, if you read the list of OCD behaviours, you are sure to identify with at least one of it.

Anyway, the fan in me realised that Farhan must have an OCD with bad films as well, since he has given us some of the best we’ve seen in recent times – be it as a director or actor!

Moral of the story: Put two OCDs together and you get “Wolf of Wall Street.” Not too bad a deal, is it? Clueless? Check the international list again!
