Hello.

We’re doing something a little different today. Like you, we’re tired of the inequality, discrimination, trolling, sexism, and violence we see in the news and social media every day.

We at MissMalini are looking inwards to discover how we can drive real social change. We acknowledge that change starts at home, and that it is up to us to be the change we wish to see in the country we love.

We pledge to do our part by creating a more inclusive environment in which all are accepted - regardless of race, age, gender, religion, caste or sexual orientation.

Starting today we pledge:

PS: We’re taking a pause from our regular posts today to share some very special content.

The theme for this years calender is Draupadi. Says Vikram in a media note, “There are few women in Hindu mythology that compete with the beauty of Draupadi, the dark dusky doe eyed Indian beauty. Wars have been fought for her and kingdoms lost.”

Adds the affable photographer, “Indians as a race have a predominantly beautiful dark and dusky complexion which is portrayed even in our ancient history and mythology. If you look at religious iconography, you will realise that many of the gods, goddesses and other mythological figures have been portrayed with a dark complexion. Yet, we tend to have a fetish for fair skins and we do not see any conscious effort to promote the dusky woman. This was the biggest reason for creating a calendar with beautiful images of dusky models.”

The clothes worn by the models are by designers Falguni & Shane Peacock while the styling has been done by Chandni Sareen. The hairstyles and make-up have been created by Tina Mukherjee and Ambreen Yusuf, respectively.
