When the cast for Shuddhi was first announced, many people were extremely excited because it meant that Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan would be cast again opposite each other after over a decade. They were quite a hot pair back in the day, but never worked with each other post the release of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Unfortunately, there is a possibility now that we’ll have to wait even longer to see them together. Due to Hrithik Roshan’s health issues (and Bang Bang being pushed back as a result), Shuddhi has been indefinitely postponed. Now, Karan Johar has even admitted that the film’s cast may change.
Karan maintains that Kareena is a part of the film currently, but he acknowledges that he can’t expect her to “wait indefinitely.” And as of now, Shuddhi may still take six months or even a year before it can go on floors. So much so that Karan also told Mirror, “Right now, I don’t know where it’s going.” The big question is, will Kareena want to wait? Will she have the dates to give them when they eventually do begin shooting?
Who will replace Kareena (if it comes down to it) depends on when the film finally goes on floors and who has the dates, but the obvious choice would be Deepika Padukone. In fact, Kareena was even a bit miffed earlier when reports began doing the rounds that DPad had replaced Bebo in the film, which resulted in Karan having to take to Twitter to clarify the rumours. So yes, while KJo insists Kareena is in the film currently, we won’t be surprised at all if he approaches Deepika incase Bebo has to opt out. After all, we already told you that Karan wants to sign Deepika on for a three film deal.
Time will tell which direction Shuddhi takes, but for now, the film has been put on hold. What are your thoughts?
