Did you catch the live stream of Tommy Hilfiger’s fall/winter 2014 show? We showed it right here on MissMalini.com along with a sneak peek. If not, don’t worry, I have all the deets! This time, for his fall/winter 2014 collection that he presented at New York Fashion Week, he was inspired by the great American outdoors infused with a luxe reinterpretation for today’s adventurous young women. It was an eclectic mix of technical mountaineering gear, western work wear and saturated plaids that have a very youthful, bohemian sensibility.

The tartan material has long been an established Hilfiger hallmark and this season, it has been given an irreverent twist with bespoke checks that appear on various materials – on brushed wool-cashmere, mohair, and silk. The signature plaid pops up as revers and turn-backs on peacoat toppers, a range of shirt-dress silhouettes trimmed with navy velvet details, as well as must-have leather totes and satchels. Suede circle skirts accented with zig zag lock-stitching and tiered prairie skirts in fringed multi plaid appear in shrunken proportions.

Rugged performance materials (what you would expect on sports gear, etc) are used to create classic silhouettes and are unexpectedly mixed with rich velvet, suede, and leather.  Quite innovative, I must say!

Bungee-cord holes, speed lock and drawstrings all mostly found on exploration gear find their way on footwear. Outerwear was the key focus with teddy-fur bomber jackets that were layered over textured alpine knits. Cable-knit patch work ponchos were paired with hiking boots; suede boyfriend puffer vests and denim made for a great fashionable combination. Everything had a slip-on ease, from oversized shearling-lined parkas to velvet sweatshirts with mini-dress proportions – even the classic clog, updated in faux-fur finish was worn with colour-blocked socks. It was a tech meets traditional with an adventure-ready spirit.
