Happy Holi
Happy Holi

I am completely into celebrating Holi and cherish every minute of the madness on the day of this mega Indian festival. What really makes this festival of colors a total blast is the fun we have with family and friends. I completely dig the totally messy but awesome parties that allow us to splash away to our heart’s content. All parties need great music and I’d love to share my definitive list of songs I’ll be dancing to this Holi season. I bet that there are many more songs out there and I’d love if you guys can share some of your favorites to add to my Holi bash playlist in the comments below! HAPPY HOLI 🙂

1) Balam Pichkari from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

This one has to be on top of your list unless you’ve been living under a rock. The song has amazing vocals by Shalmali Kholgade and my favorite music composer, Vishal Dadlani. If you’ve caught the video, it has Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone flirting away and the song is just way too much fun. It’s also got some pretty funny and rather crazy steps which I can’t wait to dance to, all armed with water guns and a bunch of colors for effect.

2. Sunny Sunny from Yaariyan

I hate to admit this but none of us can get this song out of our heads no matter how hard we try. It’s as if Yo Yo Honey Singh decided to turn into a weather boy and give us all these Sunny Sunny and Paani Paani type lyrics/weather report. However, his songs do have the potential to make you want to get up and start dancing right now so we can’t complain.

3) Do Me A Favour Lets Play Holi from Waqt- The Race Against Time

If you can just ignore Anu Malik‘s voice, this song has all the elements that make it fit the bill. Sunidhi Chauhan is one of my favorite singers and she has managed to salvage the vocals on this one.

4) Holi Khele Raghuveera from Baghban

I absolutely adore Amitabh Bachchan‘s voice and this song is no exception. It’s also sung by legendary singers like Sukhwinder Singh, Udit Narayan and the sweet sounding Alka Yagnik. It’s actually kind of like those songs that makes even the uncles and aunties get into the mood for some hip gyrating moves. Sounds creepy but it’s true. I’ve witnessed this for myself on more than one occasion. Play this one at your own risk.

5) Rang Barse from Silsila

You can be in any year or any decade for that matter but some Holi songs will never go out of style. This one’s a classic with the eternally awesome Amitabh Bachchan yet again and just mentioning Holi and B-town music to a desi will make them think of this song. Enough said.

6) Soni Soni from Mohabbatein

If you’re a Shah Rukh Khan fan (which is like half of the world) then you’ll love dancing to this super cute song that always makes me think of his dimples and that million dollar smile with which he can romance even a wall. It’s got a very boys vs girls dance off feel to it and you might enjoy grooving away to this one with your friends.

7) Ang Se Ang Lagaana from Darr

I’m a major Juhi Chawla fan and to make it more special, this one’s sung way too beautifully by Vinod Rathod and Alka Yagnik. It’s also the perfect song to cuddle up with your special someone and because everyone looks the same with all that color on, maybe (just maybe) your parents won’t notice.

8) Khelenge Hum Holi from Kati Patang

This one’s yet another classic Holi song featuring Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh. It has some pretty cool lyrics and you can’t help but love Kaka’s ( yes, that’s his nick) inimitable style of dancing.

9) Holiya Mein Ude Re Gulaal by Ila Arun

The song’s made special by Ila Arun’s unique voice and her penchant for folk and pop fusion. I particularly love this one one as it’s a true celebration of Holi in all its glory and splendor and it’s sure to give you a high faster than any *bhaang could.

*bhaang- desi booze you drink at a Holi celebration

10) Baby Doll from Ragini MMS2

If you’ve been to a nightclub that plays desi music recently, you’d know that this song is clearly every DJ’s favorite right now. It’s also one of my favorite party songs of the moment thanks to the mind-blowing vocals by Kanika Kapoor and groovy music by Meet Brothers Anjjan ( a major career high for them). Now, I know that Sunny Leone isn’t exactly playing Holi in the video but if you’re looking for a great dance song this one’s your best bet this season.

I bet that you can’t wait to jump right into that massive pool of colors that awaits you and armed with all this super music, this will be promises to be one great Holi-day.
