The gorgeous Vidya Balan recently did a photoshoot as part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2014, for which she is the festival ambassador. For this photoshoot, two well-known Australian designers, Akira Isogawa and Susan Dimasi, came together to dress Vidya. Akira, we’re told, created a special dress for Vidya that was a fusion of “Australian chic” and his own Japanese roots. The dress, he claims, was supposed to stay true to Vidya’s style.

Psst Akira also designed the famous gown Cate Blanchett wore when she won the Oscar for Elizabeth.

Susan Dimasi, on the other hand, dressed Vidya in a sari. She designed the fabric by hand-weaving textile with silk ribbon through a rubber net. Inspiration for this piece was drawn from the 18th century brocades out of the Victorian art gallery’s collection. This textile was exhibited at the Melbourne Now art exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, and then later draped on Vidya as a sari.
