Koffee With Karan
Koffee With Karan

The guest list for this season of Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan was mind boggling, be it Salman Khan opening the season or the two contemporaries Parineeti Chopra and Alia Bhatt concluding it with a blast. However, the season had its share of highs and lows as some moments cracked us up while there were the other moments that made us cringe. We decided to dissect the season accordingly and so going F.R.I.E.N.D.S style, we have this for you! Read on!

The one that took your breath away:

Not in the romantic sense, but in fact they were a riot and made us roll on the floor with laughter. Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor did everything from complimenting each other to planting kisses whenever possible, thus making Karan Johar act out the ‘can’t watch’ BBM emoticon. Their episode was one of the most ‘non-bitchy’ chats one has ever seen on the show, a double dose of love and lots of ‘dhina dhin dha’!

The one with the sleeping pill:

Insomniac? Watch Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s episode. The poor duo tried hard to be all witty but they really just got caught in trying to deny their relationship and diverting attention to other aspects of their respective careers. Even their rapid fires couldn’t save this episode from the boredom that it contained, especially with ARK’s repetition of the bromance with Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha’s “Alia should finish college if not in the industry” advice. This one was a sleeping pill.

The one with the family feel:

Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan rightly own this one. Their equation as cousins on the couch was just right without any put up performance of being extra close, while at the same time maintaining the warmth that the Kapoor family has always had. Not only did they amicably take most of the questions with a sense of humour but also gave some honest and fun answers in the rapid fire.

The one with the raunchiest rapid fire:

Who can overpower the thrill that the articulate Mahesh Bhatt and the not-so-social Emraan Hashmi brought to the couch this season! Pointing out to the thin line between reel and real, their answers were brutally honest, crisp and rapid in the true sense. Even KJo realised that this is by far the best rapid fire he has ever had on the show.

The one with the parent-teacher meeting:

We thought that after the effects of her appearance on KWK with Deepika Padukone, Sonam would have gauged where to go on and where to cut it out. As the father-daughter duo discussed the yesteryears and the present scenario of the industry with Karan, Sonam did not stop herself from pointing out how art films don’t have ‘nice looking people’. She typically went on to say ‘I am single’ and ‘Sorry dad, but Farhan Akhtar, never wear a shirt’. This episode was nothing less than a constructed parent-teacher meeting.

The one with the surprise package:

Aamir Khan all the way! Karan Johar already did half the job by just bringing him on the couch and the rest was completed by him and Kiran Rao, who is the perfect example of beauty with brains. What we saw on the couch was a side of Aamir Khan that the audience has never seen before. He comfortably spoke about his personal life, reciprocated the love that Salman Khan had bestowed upon him in the first episode and was super entertaining with his rapid fire too. We want to see so much more of this Aamir Khan and no one should dare to label him ‘the serious one’ ever again!

The one with the north-south of Hindi cinema:

She believes in cinema with brains, while, for him, it is simply entertainment that counts. Two filmmakers styles as distinctive as Zoya Akhtar and Rohit Shetty in the same episode was surprisingly solid and full of knowledge. This episode had a little of everything, from the kind of films today to the kind of media interactions that irritate or impress filmmakers. To sum it up, this episode was a perfect blend of substance and amusement.
