Fruity Margaritas for summer
Fruity Margaritas for summer

Drink up! Drink up! Summer is upon us! With the mercury levels in Mumbai threatening to hit the high Forties, what better way do you have to cool down than by sipping on a fun margarita while relaxing in the comfort of your AC room and listening to some soothing jazz?

On the 5th of May, we were invited to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at the Elbo Room in Mumbai and the folks at Aspri Spirits (who hosted the soiree) served up some wicked margaritas to keep all the guests in good cheer.

What’s more is that all these drinks were fruit based, so it’s easy to convince yourself (if you really must!) that you’re indulging in your recommended daily intake of fruits as well. Tee hee!

We got them to share the recipes with us, so bring out your shaker and blender and whip up these yummy cocktails in a jiffy:

Mango margarita

Ingredients

  • 2 whole limes
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (decorator’s sugar)
  • Mango chunks
  • 30 – 45 ml Don Angel Tequila
  • 30 ml Triple Sec
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Preparation instructions: Zest the limes and lay the zest on a plate. If you have the time, let the zest dry out for ten minutes or so. Pour the coarse sugar over the zest and toss it around with your fingers to combine the lime and sugar.

Throw the mango chunks into a blender. Pour in the tequila, triple sec and sugar. Squeeze in the juice of the limes, then top off the whole thing with ice. Blend it until it’s totally smooth. Give it a taste, then add more of what you think it needs (alcohol, sugar, lime, etc.)

To serve, cut a small wedge of lime and rub the lime all over the rim of the glass to moisten. Dip the rim of the glasses in the lime-sugar to give it a pretty, crystal rim.

Pour in the margarita and serve immediately!

frozen peach margarita

Ingredients

  • 2 whole limes
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (decorator’s sugar)
  • Peach chunks
  • 30 – 45 ml Don Angel Tequila
  • 30 ml Triple Sec
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Preparation Instructions: Again, you need to zest the limes and set it aside. Let the zest dry out for ten minutes or so. Pour the coarse sugar over the zest and mix it with your fingers.

While it is drying out, put the peach chunks into your blender and pour in the tequila, triple sec and sugar. Then, squeeze in the juice of the limes and liberally top off the whole thing with ice. Blend it until it’s totally smooth.

To serve, rub a bit of lime all over the rim of the glass and then dip the rim into the lime-sugar to make for a tangy-sweet taste.

Pour the margarita into the glass and serve with a slice of peach on the edge.

  • 2 whole limes
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (decorator’s sugar)
  • Watermelon chunks
  • 30 – 45 ml Don Angel Tequila
  • 30 ml Triple Sec

Preparation instructions: The method to preparing this potent drink is much the same as what we have already illustrated, above! Except, instead of peach or mango, you use small chunks of watermelon. But make sure you de-seed them first.
