You must have, at some point, heard all the hype behind the MoroccanOil Treatment and the wonders it can do for your hair. I’ve been using the serum for nearly two years now, so I’ve been pretty sold on it – it’s a quick-fix for frizz and a great way to get some moisture into your hair. However, I’d never tried the entire system – complete with shampoo, conditioner, mask, etc – so when the Taj Salon in Colaba invited us recently for one of their signature MoroccanOil treatments by their experts, I was looking forward to checking it out.

I’ve listed down the easy three-step process so that, if you do have the products, you can give yourself a great hair spa at home. Otherwise, you may find it worth your while to head down to the Taj Salon for some silky hair!

1. Start off by putting a few drops of the Dry Scalp Treatment into your hair – there’s also an Oily Scalp Treatment for those who need it – to prep and soothe it. Then, wash your hair (the stylist used the MoroccanOil shampoo and conditioner). Tip: For those of you who colour your hair but have a sensitive scalp, you can put in these drops, wait 5 minutes and then apply your colour as normal.

2. Scoop out some of the intense hydrating mask using a dry spatula, then add a pump of the MoroccanOil serum into it. Feed this mixture into your damp hair starting from 3 inches away from the scalp. Leave on for 15 minutes. Tip: Section off your hair into 4 parts for easy application.

3. Rinse the product out thoroughly (leaving product in can lead to dandruff) and style as usual. Tip: Follow up with a pump or two of the MoroccanOil serum. The best way to use it is to rub the oil on your hands and apply to the ends and mid-lengths. Then, run the remnants over the top.

I was definitely happy with the results – by the end of it, I had moisturised, super silky hair. My hair can get rough if I go too long without any treatment, especially thanks to all the pollution in this city, but their signature treatment was a good way to get it looking and feeling healthy again. The expert at the Taj Salon recommended doing this weekly, and also suggested a quick mid-week treatment: before a wash, apply 2 pumps of the serum into your hair, then wash as normal. It should restore moisture and hold you off until your next treatment.

After my visit to the salon, I’ve done this treatment at home a few times and have been as happy with the results. If you don’t want to buy that many products, then I recommend at least getting the hydrating mask and the serum, as those are the stand-out products for me. You can use another sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, especially if you have damaged, coloured or curly hair. Sulfate-free shampoos protect keratin and any treatments you may have done.

Will you be giving this treatment a try? What do you do to keep your hair healthy?
