Is it safe to go to Thailand right now? I honestly wasn’t sure, but then I discovered this awesome and eloquently written blog by Sajjid Mitha called travelmango, and now I know!

“…in my reading the country is safer today with the military in charge as compared to what it was a few months ago when street protests called for Yingluck Shinawatra, the 28th Prime Minister of Thailand, to step down. The Thai army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha is now in power following a bloodless coup. Thailand is not new to military coups and I believe that this action will help restore order following months of turmoil. The media is obliged to exaggerate as is clearly the case with regards to recent events in Thailand. I am in touch with many of my friends in Thailand who have confirmed that the streets are peaceful and there is a general feeling of relief amongst the locals… For those travelling to Bangkok do keep in mind that the call for curfew will see malls shut by 10 pm at night….”

Sajjid and his stunning wife Laveena have always struck me as happy luxury nomads. So I’m excited to follow their adventures on this blog! Heck he’s already banked the Four Seasons tented camps in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand:

“On Day 2 the excitement started with the rising of the sun. As the first rays beckoned us out of bed, we stepped out onto our patio, the wood cold on our feet and yet to be heated by the morning sun.  As our eyes feasted on the boundless beauties of the triangle, we looked at each  other and nodded in agreement as our draw that morning was not breakfast alone but to feed the baby elephants.”

…waxed eloquent about Qatar airlines:

“This is one sophisticated airline which truly exceeds expectations every single time. What deserves a very special mention is while waiting for my Arabic Mezze platter from the indulgence menu en route to Houston, I get a message on my TV screen which read thus, ” Mr. Mitha, your mezze platter will be served to you in 9 minutes. We apologize for the delay.” For me this was a first and I was super impressed.”

…and shared his love for Thailand’s finest!

“If you have plans to travel to Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Phi Phi, Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, now is as good a time as any to visit these beautiful parts of Thailand. Your only worry should be the hot spicy food the Thai’s love so much and the blazing hot temperatures across the country.

So there you have it. Your new desi travel buddy with a penchant for the finer things in life is now just a blog away 🙂 happy travels Sajid & Laveena, I’ll be following your adventures on the travelmango! xoxo
