I moved to the Hills about two years ago, having gotten married to an hotelier from Shimla. My premature ideas of life up there were overly romanticized and eventually the ‘Bombay Girl’ in me got restless after realizing that living in a Hill Station doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on a permanent vacation, and if however you choose to do that, you’re probably the only one in town who’s got nothing to do J! A part of adjusting to the slow-paced, simple life in Himachal involved trying out a lot of natural home remedies, organic & locally sourced beauty products in the absence of big ticket brands that we’ve grown up using.
This is in particular, about this oil I started using, for my dry skin, a pure extract from dried apricot kernels. I began to use it to moisturize my face, body and hair. It was just wonderful; the oil was non greasy, quick to absorb into the skin and smelled oh so sweet.
On my business trips to Mumbai where I run a merchandising company, I began to gift this oil to my family and friends, and over time they too became converts and kept asking for more. With the encouragement and support from my husband and in laws, I decided to share the goodness of “Gutti ka Tel” with my city-sisters and have now started bringing the oil from the hills and bottling it in Mumbai and Delhi and soon plan to start distribution in Pune and Bangalore as well.
“Gutti” means dried apricot kernel from which the oil is extracted. It is sourced from orchards in Upper Himachal run by family & close friends.
Gutti ka Tel (Pure Apricot Kernel Oil Extract) is rich in vitamins A, C & E and loaded with anti-oxidants.
This extract does not get purer than this, as we personally supervise the cold pressing in village “chakkis” to ensure that no mixing is done, and there are no added preservatives to prolong the already existing one-year shelf life of the oil. The benefits of Gutti ka Tel are manifold; It moisturizes skin, nourishes hair and prevents hair fall, reduces cellulite and stretch marks, as a gentle make up remover, heals allergies, sunburns and skin conditions and it is a lovely oil for mild massages for babies.
“Khal” is the powdered residue from the cold pressing process which is used as a natural organic body scrub when mixed with milk, honey, oil , malai or rose water. It works as a wonderful exfoliator and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth.
Once the Gutti ka Tel and Khal are bottled in Mumbai, Pune & Delhi, they are ready to be home delivered to our customers.
