All of us, at some time or the other, have ascribed a particular song to our first crush or first love. We might have done it during those wonder years or much later in life when the apt song came along and the lyrics resonated with what we experienced all those decades ago.

Our Bollywood stars are no different from us in that department. They too fondly (and sometimes not so fondly) reminisce about their first crush when they hear the initial strains of a particular song.

Team MissMalini got a couple of them to spill their secrets at the launch of Harman Kardon’s audio equipment, that took place in Mumbai last night and here’s what they told us:

Oh wow! That was so long ago. But whenever I chance to listen to Strangers In The Night by Frank Sinatra, it reminds me of the time I met this girl and we were literally strangers to each other. She was not my first crush but I wanted it to be a very happening night – if you get my drift. Now I’m not going to reveal if anything did happen but yes, this song reminds me of that occasion when I hear it.

I was fourteen or fifteen years old and had just about begun to discover boys. At that time, With Or Without You by U2 was very popular and I used to listen to it a lot and think about this cute guy I had a crush on.

The one song that reminds me of my first crush is Head Over Feet by Alanis Morisette from her album, Jagged Little Pill. The lyrics of the song are young, fresh and innocent – precisely the way I was at that time. They truly defined who I was at that time.

My first crush was back home in Sweden and I can’t say I had a very good experience because he broke my heart. We would listen to a Persian song called Ki Ashkato Pak Mikoneh by a singer called Ebi. Hence I think back to that time when I hear this soulful song.

There are two songs which actually come to mind – Pajaros by Gustavo Santaollalla and A Hard Day’s Night by The Beatles. I was acting in a play at that time and I had a crush on this girl who was also in it. We used to sit with our headphones on and listen to these songs. I guess I was introduced to music from then on and that’s when I actually began to play close attention to the lyrics.

I can’t remember my first crush (grins wickedly) but I can tell you that Frank Sinatra’s Strangers In The Night is very dear to me because it reminds me of the first time I danced with my wife. Of course, she was not my wife at the time. It was in Tuscany and I had gate-crashed her party. Whenever I listen to that song, it reminds me of our first dance.

There was this guy in my school whom I didn’t even know existed. He left school for a while and then came back a few months later. That’s when he told my friends that he had a crush on me. But since I didn’t know he even existed till that point, I was a bit sceptical. Anyway, I ultimately ended up falling for him and we ended up going back and forth. He was the love of my life for five years after that. The song that reminds me of him is Can We Talk by Tevin Campbell.

Some really interesting choices there, no? If things do get frisky with your crush, you could play these songs too. *wink wink*
