We loved him as KD in Rock On!! and those of you who remember Hip Hip Hurray, Purab Kohli need not be introduced to you! When Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 started, I promised you an exclusive chat with Purab and here it is! 2 weeks into Jhalak, we have seen him perform and well, Madhuri called him ‘lambi race ka ghoda’. So here’s what Purab had to say about his journey through television, movies and now Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7.
Team MissMalini: From being a VJ to doing films, and now JDJ 7, how has the transition been for you?
Purab Kohli: Starting off as an actor on TV, moving to cinema, doing commercials… It has indeed been a long journey of 16 years! But reality television is not new to me, even though this is the first time I am participating in a reality show myself. It’s interesting to be on this side of the show.
Team MM: So how did JDJ 7 happen to you?
PK: Reality TV has been calling me for a while now, but something or the other didn’t work out. Jhalak had called me last year but I didn’t have the dates. Jhalak has always been something I wanted to do, mainly because it is not like your regular reality shows. Plus, it has dance! I love dancing and this is a platform that lets you put your foot forward and display what you have. That’s fun!
Team MM: You mentioned that you want to learn Latin American dance forms, so what is that one dance form that you really want to master?
PK: The Tango! I have been telling Mohena right from the beginning that I want to do Tango, but we are waiting for a while since it is a difficult dance form. But I have done Salsa and it is amazing how you can move your body once you get it right.
Team MM: How was your first day at the Jhalak House with Mohena? Did you both click at the first go?
PK: When I entered Jhalak and I met Mohena, she took me straight into the first song! I realized that she is full of energy and she is really going to take me for a spin through the season! (Mohena interrupts), “He is pretty cool and he is a brat who spoils me! Iss maasoom chehre pe mat jaao!”
Team MM: Mohena will take care of the dance, but what do you want to add to your performances and make them different?
PK: Fun! I think if you are having fun, your performance automatically becomes better. You look confident and it perks up the act. So however difficult my dance may be, I will have fun!
