A week before their movie releases, we met up with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and had a chat with them about everything Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, from all the funny things that happened on set, to their scenes and how great it was working together again after Student of the Year. Here are 7 things we learnt about their style in the movie (and some while promoting it).
1. Stylist Archana Walavalkar went to Chandigarh for two weeks prior to source for clothes for the movie. Alia wears a whole bunch of quirky patialas, some with characters from the Archie comics printed on them.
2. The leather jacket Varun wears in the film was made by putting together pieces from two very different jackets.
3. The ‘Kareena Wala Designer Lehenga’ Alia talks about in the trailer is the one Kareena Kapoor wore in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham during ‘Leja leja’
4. Through the movie, Alia Bhatt wears a bunch of traditional clothes while Varun plays a very poorly dressed boy. So for ‘Saturday Saturday’, when they are seen wearing Adidas shoes (in Varun’s case) and sequinned hot-shorts (in Alia’s case) – it’s because while they are partying to the music, they are imagining themselves partying in those clothes.
5. Alia’s been sporting a number of different sneaker wedges during the promotions. These have much to do with the movie and everything to do with the fact that she hurt her calf and needs shoes that support her ankle. She likes them so much now; she’s bought about four different pairs.
6. Varun’s clothes are very muted in the whole movie on account of his name (Humpty) already being so loud!
7. The sunglasses they’re wearing in the posters we bought from the street in the North because the reflective sunglasses trend is big there now and they wanted to keep up with the realism of the place.
