After his last film Heroine failed to create a buzz at the box office, Madhur Bhandarkar is back with a new film titled Calendar Girls. The National award-winning director started shooting yesterday and will launch five fresh faces with the movie. “Start shooting #CalendarGirls from today (Wednesday)! High on concept, this youthful film has 5 new faces to be shot in a 40 day start-to-finish schedule,” he tweeted.

Carving a niche for himself, Madhur has successfully managed to make his mark in the parallel cinema zone with his realistic films. The film is based on the lives of calendar girls that rose to fame after featuring in them, giving us a glimpse into the lives of model-turned-actors. There have been speculations that the movie will have a character based on Vijay Mallya, who is known to launch models in his swimsuit calendars. Madhur also went on to add “No matter how many films you have made in your career, the first day of shoot of your new film is always a mixture of excitement & nerves..”

Not so long ago, there were rumours that Bhandarkar approached Deepika Padukone, a model-turned-actress herself, to play the lead in his film but these rumours eventually died down. Hhmmm.. considering Deepika rose to fame with the Kingfisher calendar, we can’t help but wonder if the film will have any resemblance to her life. The Fashion director made it big with films like Page 3, Corporate and Fashion. His last film, Heroine, starring Kareena Kapoor was based on the ups and downs in the life of an actress.

If rumours are anything to go by, post this film, Madhur will begin work on his next, Madamji, which is about an item girl turning politician. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see if Calendar Girls, with the new faces will create a stir at the box office! What do you think? Are you looking forward to the film?
