As a warm weather and a monsoon staple, denim cut-offs and shorts, are essential for every girl’s wardrobe. The right pair of shorts can be dressed up for a fun, sexy evening or dressed down for a stylish, yet casual day shopping or hanging out with friends..

Fashion-wise, shorts are often an afterthought, with litte attention to shopping for a pair as compared to say, jeans or the perfect bathing suit. But, with a little bit of patience and focus, you can find the right pair of shorts that suits your body type and can be styled in multiple ways so you can wear them to the beach to a garden party or even out to dinner!

Finding the right fit and fabric for your body is imperative when selecting a pair of shorts. As always, we at BandraRoad are here to help you navigate through the endless choices.

If You’ve Got Long Legs :

Congratulations….You’re in luck. You’ve got legs made for shorts. Mostly every kind of style will look good on you.  Just be careful, if you lean towards a more modest style, short shorts can make long-legged women, like you,  look like you’re exposing more thigh than you really are. So make sure your shorts are at least a couple of inches below your butt, so that your shorts still look classy and your legs look endless.  If you are more adventurous…the sky’s the limit, have fun!

Knee- length Shorts:

Not too many people can actually pull off long shorts. Those with short legs end up looking short. But if you’ve got long legs, you can wear knee length shorts and still look statuesque. They’re the perfect pair for a night out and look great with a blazer. Choose a pair in a solid colour, as wearing a pattern all the way to your knees might be a bit overwhelming for even the tallest of women.

Roll-up Chino shorts:

Roll-up shorts in a solid colour can be cute and flattering. You get to choose the length of your shorts and the relaxed style looks laid back while still showing off those legs.  These also may work for petite women.

If You Are Petite:

Mid Length shorts:

If you are vertically challenged, never, and I mean never wear shorts that go past your knee. You will become instantly shorter and lose valuable inches to your height. Finding a pair of shorts is a matter of length for you. Too short and you either look like a child or a little to cheeky, if you know what I mean. Your safest bet, are shorts that hit at the middle of your thigh.

High Waisted Shorts:

Believe it or not, a pair of high waisted shorts will also help elongate your look, making it appear as if your hips and legs begin higher up. I prefer high waisted shorts in a black colour as they make you look slimmer and can flatter just about any shape.

Style Tip:  Rule of thumb for petite ladies…never wear shorts that come close to knee length.

If You Have Fuller Thighs:

Bermuda Shorts:

Don’t hide those thighs! Legs of all sizes deserve to be seen. Choosing the right pair of shorts for you is all about leaving a little room around your legs to balance out your proportions and to give a slightly slimmer appearance. If you need more coverage, experiment with stylish Bermuda shorts.

Boyfriend shorts:

Boyfriend style shorts are loose and vary in length, but the relaxed fit adds more room in the seat and across the upper thigh.  A cute cuff detail can actually be slimming if there’s enough room around your legs at the opening.

Shopping Tips:

DON’T FORGET TO SIT –

If you think you’ve found the perfect pair of shorts, there is one test you must do as a failsafe before buying.  In front of a mirror, sit down on a chair.  Check to make sure your new shorts have the right coverage when seated, meaning that they do not ride up too much from the front or the back.

Style Tips:

Pocket Power –

The cut is perfect, the fabric is breathing and you feel like a million bucks, but what about the pockets? Don’t forget to check out your backside in the mirror.  Wider set back pockets will make your rear look wider while close set pockets can make you look more slender.

The best thing about shorts is that you can find them everywhere.  You can find them at stores, your favourite flea market or while you are street shopping. But the best thing about shorts is that you can actually make them yourself by recycling your old jeans that are hidden at the back of your closet.
