5 Bollywood On Screen Brother-Sister Duos That We Love!

Pallavi Manoj

On the occasion of Rakshabandhan today, sibling love has been in the air. So we decided to pick out five on-screen brother-sister jodis that we absolutely adore. After all, it’s no cakewalk to portray such a beautiful bond on celluloid so realistically! Take a look and tell us which one amongst the following is your favourite duo!

1. Shah Rukh Khan-Aishwarya Rai (Max and Shirley Dias, Josh)

Josh, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan

The true essence of a brother-sister relationship lies in the endless number of fights, pranks and arguments between them. Naturally, Max and Shirley’s bittersweet equation had struck a chord with many. In fact, though the film Josh had failed to create ripples at the box-office, SRK and Ash’s on-screen camaraderie had more than made up for it. Remember the song Apun Bola sung by our King Khan himself and picturised on this reel bro-sis duo?

We bet its oh so cute video can still make you smile from ear to ear! Yes, there’s no doubt that we loved seeing SRK romancing Ash in Devdas and Mohabbatein. But we have to say that we loved him way more as her overprotective gangster brother in Josh. Won’t you agree? (Of course last we spotted them trading baby stories at a kabaddi match!)

2. Arbaaz Khan-Kajol (Vishal and Muskaan Thakur, Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya)

Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Arbaaz Khan and Kajol

Talking about overprotective brothers, remember the brooding Bade Bhaiya from Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya? While his love and care for his behna made us go aww, his hatred towards her loverboy Sooraj also managed to give us chills down our spines. However, his possessiveness towards her somehow warmed our hearts all the more. A mother, father and a sibling – all rolled into one, Vishal played the perfect elder brother to his sister Muskaan in this rom-com. Now, we can’t help but wonder if Arbaaz is as loving a brother in real life as well. Guess only Salman, Sohail, Alvira and Arpita Khan can tell!

3. Farhan Akhtar-Divya Dutta (Milkha Singh and Isri Kaur, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Farhan Akhtar-Divya Dutta

When two ace actors share screen space together, they are bound to weave magic. That’s exactly what happened when the uber talented duo of Farhan and Divya gave us a generous glimpse of sports star Milkha Singh and his sister’s real life bond on reel. We can vouch for the fact that the emotional sequences between both of them in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag had left you teary-eyed. The scene where Milkha gifts a pair of gold earrings to his didi was so real and believable that anyone could instantly connect to it.

No wonder then that two of them received several accolades for their excellent performances in the movie!

4. Prateik-Genelia D’Souza (Amit and Aditi Mahant, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na)

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Pateik Babar and Genelia D’souza

Aditi aka Meow’s world revolved around her best friend Jai aka Rats. But it’s her brother Amit, who played a pivotal role in making her realise her feelings for him. Your siblings know you more than you do, hence proved! The characters of Amit and Aditi shared a blow hot blow cold equation but they also completed each other in more ways than one. And that was rightly translated on screen by these youngsters. The film marked the debut of both Prateik and Genelia and we seldom see them on celluloid anymore. However, we’d always dote this adorable twosome form their memorable act in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.

5. Sushant Singh Rajput-Amrita Puri (Ishaan and Vidya Bhatt, Kai Po Che!)

Kai Po Che!, Amrita Puri and Sushant Singh Rajput

Ishaan and Vidya from Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! have also made it to the list of our favourite on-screen brother-sister duos. When shared with your loved ones, even the little joys of life can become the biggest source of your happiness. Whether it’s watching a cricket match or flying a kite or just sitting idle and gazing at the sky, there are many of these wonderful moments that Ishaan and Vidya share with each other. And these are the moments that beautifully showcase their bond in the flick. Hailing from a middle-class Gujrati family, this brother-sister jodi is as relatable as one could be. And we loved them for the very same reason!

6. Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra ( Ayesha and Kabir Mehra)

Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra

Dil Dhadak Ne Do showed us, siblings from an affluent family that goes about living their own lives. It does not show sacred brother-sisterly moments, but it throws light on those eye-opening talks that you have once in a while with your brother or sister that makes you realize that you will always be there for each other. When the going gets tough, you’ve got each other’s back and sometimes you understand things without even talking to each other. Kabir and Ayesha may not overtly show their affection, but which siblings do, right?

7. Kangana Ranaut and Chinmaya Agrawal (Rani and Chintu Mehra)

Chinmaya Agarwal and Kangana Ranaut

Rani‘s brother Chintu will definitely make it to the top of any list that mentions brother-sister love. He might be way younger than Rani in age but that doesn’t stop him from taking his duty to protect and take care of his sister seriously in any way. He literally follows her everywhere she goes and is even brave enough to silently threaten the guy who broke his sister’s heart. The relationship between Chintu and Rani shown in the movie Queen is just pure innocence and love. His sister is everything for him and he listens to every word she says. Who wouldn’t want a brother like that, no?

8. Hrithik Roshan and Kanika Tiwari (Vijay Deenanath Chauhan and Shiksha)

Priyanka Chopra, Kanika Tiwari Hrithik Roshan

The love that Vijay Dheenanath Chauhan has for his sister is unparalleled. Even when separated due to life circumstances, he shows his love for his baby sister by running NGOs in her name. The relationship between Shiksha and Vijay in Agneepath is nothing less than sacred and there’s no need of a rakhi to prove that. Vijay is surely the brother who’d turn the world upside down to bring a smile on his sister’s face.

Other on-screen brother-sister duos we’d always remember are:

Hrithik Roshan-Karisma Kapoor (Amaan and Fiza Ikramullah, Fiza)
Arjun Rampal-Deepika Padukone (Saundarya and Krishna Rao, Housefull)
Sanjay Suri-Juhi Chawla (Nikhil and Anamika Kapoor, My Brother… Nikhil)
Dev Anand-Zeenat Aman (Prashant and Jasbir Jaiswal, Hare Rama Hare Krishna)
Rajesh Khanna-Farida Jalal (Bhola and Belu, Sachaa Jhutha)
