Singham Returns
Singham Returns

I have to admit that before seeing Rohit Shetty’s Singham Returns, I was skeptical as to how the movie would be. I assumed the movie might be too over-the-top and may be a movie with more action than plot. However, I am happy to say that I am very pleased with the movie and found it to super entertaining! Not only was Singham Returns an entertaining movie, but it had some great things viewers can take away. Some aspects are good messages, and some are just fun ideas, but in general there is a lot to be learned from Singham Returns!

1) the youth can make a difference!

Anupam Kher’s speech in the beginning of the movie was so inspirational! He is completely right that if India has a young population, then why isn’t more of that population becoming involved in politics? Why isn’t the youth working to try and end corruption? The youth of India can make a positive impact regarding politics and government in India, and it is definitely something more people should look into! As Anupam Kher says, “Always remember, life mein kuch bhi ho sakta hai.” After all, the youth of today is the future of tomorrow!

2)  everyone deserves a second chance

Ajay Devgn could have easily locked up the hooligans that were messing around on their motorcycles and causing problems. However, D.C.P. Bajirao Singham understood the implications of putting students in jail and knew that could mess up their future. As annoyed as he was with them, he gave them a second and even a third chance to change their habits! As much as someone may annoy or bother you, it is always important to give that person another chance! People can change and you should give them a chance to do so!

3) nobody is perfect!

As perfect as our beloved Bajirao Singham seemed, even he had his flaws. He got angry too quickly and beat up the men who took the bribes from Baba Satyaraj Chandra. He was too quick to judge and form opinions without looking at the whole situation. He didn’t realize how wrong he was until he got yelled at by the boy’s mother and understood their perspective. Even the best of us make mistakes and have our flaws, and that is okay! The important thing is to accept and acknowledge when we are wrong and work to improve ourselves!

4) do not blindly follow an idea just because “everyone is doing it”

The supporters of Baba Satyaraj Chandra, played by Amole Gupte, were blinded by this “vision” of this Baba who claimed he knew how to solve all of their life’s problems. Never allow yourself to become so vulnerable to someone else that you stop thinking for yourself. And just because other people are jumping off a cliff doesn’t mean you should too! After all, the “leader” you are following could be a man who dresses in his house alternating between Chicago Bulls T-shirts and Boston Celtics Jerseys, which is a clear give-away that something is not right.

5) Sometimes being a psycho-stalker-creepy girlfriend is okay!

When Avni, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, saw someone trying to take away her man do you think she backed off and let that happen? Heck no! She was ready to turn into that psycho-stalker-creepy girlfriend to figure out just exactly what was going on! While excessive creeping should obviously be discouraged, sometimes it’s just something that needs to happen! If you need to chase after your man in a rickshaw, by all means do it! But after being a psycho-stalker-creepy girlfriend you should probably be honest and tell the other person how you feel about them. After all, that was exactly what needed to happen to let the sparks between Avni and Bajirao fly!

6) who says your hair stylist can’t be your body guard?

The award for the best supporting role in a movie needs to go to Pompy Hans this year! After all, do you know a man who can be our beloved Bebo’s hair stylist, AND act in Singham Returns with her, AND throw a punch when someone tries to attack her?! Ladies, make your hair stylist your best friend because he can clearly be capable of more than you think!

7) having a relationship does not mean you have to sacrifice your career and vice-versa

I loved that Kareena made it clear that she did not want to sacrifice her passion for being a hair stylist for a marriage. She made it evident that she wanted to work and did not want to give that up. While she was willing to postpone the relationship, eventually Bajirao and Avni were able to find a balance between a relationship and work! Too many people become career driven and think they can’t manage a marriage, or get married and think they can’t make time for their career. If there is a will, then there is a way! Singham and Avni show us this!

8) if you like food, do not be ashamed! Eat away!

The excitement Kareena got at looking at food and eating in the movie is very real! If you love food, why hide it? Eat away friends and don’t be shy! You can go to the gym later, but don’t deprive yourself of what you love!

9) the media is one powerful force not to be reckoned with!

Ashwini Kalsekar did an amazing job acting as a powerful news reporter in the movie. She showed just how much of an impact the media is able to have in today’s society that is filled with technology! It’s time to understand the positive changes that can happen in our society due to the media’s presence!

10) sometimes you just need to let the claws out and the lion inside you roar!

Being timid is not a trend. Be Singham. Be Lady Singham. Be that fiesty kid in the Aata Majhi Satakli video and express your feelings. Fight for what you believe is right!
