Super talented actress, Shabana Azmi, is now part of a play titled Happy Birthday Sunita, which will be staged in London. Azmi, who is already in the city has begun rehearsals for the same and is apparently having a blast living all by herself! Remember Gurinder Chadha‘s It’s a Wonderful Afterlife, which starred Shabana and British-Canadian actress Goldy Notay? Well, the two of them will be seen together yet again in this play. *woohoo*
Speaking about the play, Azmi told a leading daily, “It‘s about an Asian Family in Britain that has come together to celebrate the 40th birthday of the daughter of the house, who is still unmarried. Slowly it gets revealed that everyone is wearing a mask and pretending everything is fine. When the 57-year old mother of the house Tejpal Singh, played by me, decides to rebel, all hell breaks loose because they’ve always just seen her as a mother, never as a person. She stays firm on her decision and that acts as a catalyst for change for the entire family who all drop their pretensions and finally decide to live the life they’ve always wanted.”
Well, we weren’t the only ones that thought this play kinda-sorta resembles Zoya Akhtar‘s film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Shabana agreed too and told us that Goldy plays her daughter-in-law and they share an angst ridden relationship. Well, we’re definitely looking forward to watching Shabana on stage again, because, of course, she’s an AMAZING actress.
