Bubbles

Remember the old ‘Maaaa’ and ‘Babujiii’ heart attacks shown in our movies? Of course you do, we grew up on that jazz. More often than not, it’s the older man clutching his chest seemingly in the throes of a heart attack while he completes his 7 page monologue. Looks outlandish, but deep down most of us think this happens only to ‘old people’. We’ve grown up on the thought that a heart attack only happens when a person is 60 and has hair as white as Edward Cullen’s skin. Until we hit that age, most of us like to do the whole ‘YOLO’ thing or whatever the kids call it these days.

But I think now is the time we get a reality check.

Saffolalife Study 2014 reveals that 3 in 5 Women in India are at high risk of cardiovascular disease. In India, in fact, women are more at risk of heart disease today than they were just three years ago.

Ladies are more concerned about the C word (Cancer) than any other ailment. Sadly, the risk of heart disease in women is nearly as high, and it can set in at the age of 35 (yes, THAT early).

What are the causes of this horrible statistic? Celebrity Nutritionists Niti Desai answers, “High saturated fat, sugar and salt intake, rising stress levels, smoking and lack of physical inactivity are a few of the major contributory factors for the deterioration of heart health in women”

Shocking, isn’t it? But there’s hope yet! Here are 5 things ladies can and totally should do to #protectherheart (and men can totally join along!)

1) Cut out those cigarette breaks and alcohol binges.

2) Shed those extra pounds.

Because putting on a dress can make it’s way back into your daily style, and it should always remain there. Always!

3) Go running, do yoga, hit the gym, or join that Zumba class you always wanted to!

Do anything but keep that body fit!

4) Stop stressing.

No tension!

Stress is the enemy. It will always remain the enemy. Go with the flow!

5) Eat salads!

Your heart will say “burger”, but your heart doesn’t know much. Listen to your brain. Men, help her listen to reason when it comes to food to #protectherheart! Share a salad with her!

But most importantly, the first step to a healthy heart for the ladies (and gents) is to assess your current heart condition. That is why, on this World Heart Day, Saffolalife is creating awareness for women’s health through its “protect her heart initiative”. #ProtectHerHeart urges women to take the first step towards a healthy heart by going for a cholesterol check-up.

It’s good to be a 5 point someone sometimes 🙂
