I know it’s a difficult task because we have so many awesome female characters in our movies. but it had to be done. So check this list out and tell me who your favourites are! Also feel free to add anyone I might have missed!

Endures poverty, fights off the lecherous money lender, single handedly runs her family’s farm, and kills son when he turns into a dacoit. Nargis Dutt‘s Radha from Mother India is as important to this list as coke is to rum.
She’s Mary Kom you guys! Do I have to give a reason for her inclusion in this list?
Uska sense of humour bahut acha hai, aapko dheere dheere pata chalega. I think Kangana Ranaut as Rani won our hearts the moment she began dancing to ‘hungama ho gaya‘ in that club. Her expression, her face and her amazingness made me happier than I’ve ever been before!
Sita was an angel while Gita on the other hand was a total BAMF! Can never forget the scene where she’s sitting on top of a fan, completely chilled. Also the scene where she belts the creepy guy who wants to have his way with her, dude I love Gita! I hope that in the ‘which Sita Aur Gita character you are‘ quiz I get Gita!
The return of Rani Mukerjee! Mardaani again showed what a powerhouse of talent Rani really is (we’ve conveniently deleted Aiyyaa from our memories)
Vidya Bagchi from Kahaani played by Vidya Balan was perfect. Perfect story, perfect acting and perfect revenge. What a movie, what a character!
Khoon Bhari Maang is such an underrated chick flick! Should totally watch this one post break up with lots of wine for company. Also Rekha’s portrayal of Aarti Verma is what William Congreve meant when he wrote ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’!
The title of the movie is Godmother, clearly showing who the #bosslady is!
Fighting oppression, fighting sexism and fighting an abusive husband. Madhuri Dixit‘s Ketki was strong, beautiful and really inspiring!
Because Leela jaisi koi nahi!
