Chetan Bhagat recently released his book Half Girlfriend with much pomp and show in Mumbai. The book has already been picked up to be adapted for a Bollywood screenplay that’ll be directed by Mohit Suri. Ekta Kapoor is producing the film and it’ll also mark Bhagat’s debut as a Bollywood producer.
Some names were doing the rounds as to who will play the female lead of the film. Alia Bhatt was the strongest contender for this role. This would’ve made Half Girlfriend the second Chetan Bhagat adaptation she would’ve been a part of after the highly successful 2 States opposite Arjun Kapoor. However, buzz is that Kriti Sanon, who was also being considered for the same role since the beginning, has won in this race. Even though there hasn’t been an official announcement by the makers of the film, Sanon’s presence at the book launch to read passages from the book have us believe that this might be the final deal.
Till now, no names had emerged as the potential male leads of this film. However, how we hear that the makers have approached Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh for this role. Wow! It’d be quite interesting to see which out of these two will make the cut.
While, Kapoor is busy shooting Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha at the moment, Singh also has his hands full with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. So we really don’t know who’d be available. Even though there’s no confirmation yet about Kriti’s presence in the film, if all goes well, we’d have a super fresh onscreen pairing to look forward to.
