Gone Girl is not a regular movie, it’s a cool movie….a very very cool movie, it’s so cool that some people might find the coolness eerie, you know what I mean? So obviously I love it! As a fan of the director David Fincher and the fact that his last movie The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo did not release in India, I’m really excited that his latest offering Gone Girl is all set to release this Diwali. Not only has this movie beaten the much awaited prequel of The Conjuring: Annabelle at the Box Office, it has also generated a lot of Oscar buzz, so before it releases (a much edited version) in India, here are 10 things you should know about the Ben Affleck- Rosamund Pike starrer Gone Girl!

1) It’s based on a bestselling book

Gone Girl is a 2012 bestseller written by Gillian Flynn which took the literary world by storm! This book entertained, surprised and shocked book readers worldwide and remained no.1 on the New York Times Hardcover Fiction Bestseller list for eight weeks! The main premise of the novel revolves around Nick and Amy Dune and whether Nick was involved in the sudden disappearance of Amy on their fifth wedding anniversary. What happens next is something that will completely captivate you till them time you complete the 600+ pages book!

2) This is Ben Afflecks best work as an actor. Till now.

Yes I know he acted and directed Aargo and that was definitely one of the best movies of 2012, but it was more of an ensemble effort. Same with his releases (as an actor) after the disastrous Gigli (2003), most of Ben Affleck’s acting work has been as a part of a big cast. Gone Girl is more of a solo release after quite a long time and as per the reviews the movie has got, this is one of his finest works till date!

3) The author Gillian Flynn has also written the adapted screenplay for this movie

So you know the movie will be as faithful to the book as possible!

4) It has the most twisted protagonists you might have ever seen

Let’s just say that Gillian Flynn has a knack of writing really really twisted protagonists. Do read her other books, Sharp Objects and Dark Places that’ll prove this point.

5) A lot of people will have many strong opinions about it

Just do a Google search on Gone Girl and see the number of articles leading news portals and websites have dedicated to it’s plot, it’s characters, what the movie is trying to say, why is Nick the way he is, why is Amy the way she is…etc etc! You get the gist?

6) It’s a rulebook of what NOT to do in a marriage

Really, my message to married people: don’t be like them! My message to unmarried people: don’t get married!

7) Neither the hero nor the heroine are likable

Its like they’re there to piss you off but you can’t help but be hooked to their story. Completely hooked.

8) You will never underestimate what a pissed off woman can do

Especially a woman like Amy. She is Amazing Amy for a reason!

9) It’s dark

I don’t think David Fincher would adapt anything bright and happy you know…to think about it The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button might be his most non-disturbing movies as of now.

10) Cool Girl!

Gillian Flynn wrote these amazing couple of pages deconstructing the ‘Cool Girl‘. The ‘Cool Girl‘  is basically all these attributes a woman adapts to attract a man, a man who foolishly starts believing that this girl who loves her huge burgers, doesn’t nag, loves football and abuses like a sailor is actually real! Okay, these few lines won’t really do justice to the glorious demystifying of this ‘Cool Girl‘ phenomena Flynn has written about, for that you need to read the book or watch the movie!
