Disclaimer : We are aware how great The Big Bang Theory is and there is no way we can recreate it Bollywood style. This is more of a ‘if you haaad to’ sort of a situation.
The Big Bang Theory has received some flak for its plot and characters. It has ranged from “the science is too sciency” to “the science isn’t sciency enough.” However, the show has carved a niche for itself and given us characters that we absolutely adore!
So after FRIENDS, Modern Family, Gossip Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Breaking Bad, Sex And The City, Mean Girls, Pretty Little Liars and Fifty Shades Of Grey, here we are with our very own casting for a desi version of The Big Bang Theory.
Sheldon Cooper
It is no secret that Sheldon Cooper is irreplaceable and is definitely the most popular character of the show. He is brilliant and a pain in the ass, all at the same time. We thought Rajkumar Rao would be able to pull off this extreme nerd character. Rao is often associated with intense characters and we think his quirky side would be a treat for the audience to see. We can totally imagine him getting on to everyone’s last nerves already… in a super adorable way of course!
Leonard Hofstadter
Cute, sweet Leonard Hofstadter has a very boo hoo vibe to him and is head over heels in love with the neighborhood hottie Penny! We think Divyendu Sharma would be able to breathe life into this character on-screen. His portrayal of Liquid from Pyaar Ka Punchnama is memorable and he played a nerdy guy in that to the T!
Raj Koothrappali
While Raj Koothrappali is more patient with Sheldon than any of the other characters, he is also the one who we think is the funniest on the show. Socially awkward, can’t talk to women and comes from a rich family in India… doesn’t Tushar Kapoor immediately come to mind? Plus, Raj’s “bromance” with Howard Wolowitz is hilarious and borders on homo eroticism. Again, who else but Tushar Kapoor? Also, Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal series is proof that Tushar works well as the group’s sidekick.
Howard Wolowitz
Howard’s character on the show started out as super creepy and sexually desperate. However, he did find love in Bernadette eventually and has become all grown up into a happily married man. Aww. We think Riteish Deshmukh would do justice to this role. Also, the “bromance” with Tushar Kapoor will make sense too. Remember the Kya Kool Hai Hum days?
And now for the women…
Penny
The hot but ditzy girl-next-door who turned the neighbourhood nerds’ lives upside down… Penny can be played by Nargis Fakhri. She is fun and she looks as fabulous in a sexy dress as she does in a pair of hot pants.
Amy Farah Fowler
Now this was a tough one. After much thought, we zeroed down on Richa Chaddha. Amy Farah Fowler is the only one who understands and actually adores Sheldon! Also, for our Bollywood version, we needed someone who can rock the less than glamorous look and someone who’d hold her own opposite Rajkumar Rao. Richa is known to be a powerhouse performer and she’s the only one we’d trust with Amy’s character.
Bernadette Rostenkowski
Bernadette Rostenkowski is the sweet Mrs Wolowitz who keeps Howard on his toes. Also, a chance for the audience to see the adorable Genelia-Riteish pairing on-screen. Awww.
