As expected, Sonali Cable as well as Mumbai 125 KM turned out to be disaster at the box office. Not much was expected out of any of the two films that were seeing a delayed release. Hence, the outcome didn’t surprise, as the combined collections over the weekend were less than 2 crore. Horror affair Mumbai 125 KM just about crossed the 1 crore mark, while Sonali Cable didn’t even come close to that. Ironically, these are also the last of the two female driven affairs before 2014 comes to a close.
Having said that, this is just the kind of response that films garner when they arrive only a week before a biggie. In this case, the biggie is clearly the biggest of the year as all eyes are on Happy New Year. For the money paying junta, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer is an event release and it would have been foolhardy of the makers of these movies to expect much of a footfall, especially with this being a pre-Diwali weekend. Both films will struggle to complete even one full week in theaters.
In the middle of this all, it was Bang Bang that managed to survive with 5.5 crore coming in the third weekend. With this, the Siddharth Anand film has now crossed the 173 crore mark and while 175 crore is a given, this is where the film will end its run. This is yet another huge grosser for Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, after Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3 respectively. On the other hand, Haider has come close to its run with close to 3 crore coming in. The film has gone past the 57 crore mark.
