At Team MissMalini, and I’m sure at every other publication, invites for events and store openings come in on a daily basis. While sifting through all the emails, we sometimes come across a few that get us super excited – overly excited, if I may add. This month, it was the launch of Payal Khandwala‘s flagship store.
Generally one, maybe two people from our fashion team would cover an event like this, but we love Payal, so it was only fair that everyone went – this includes our CEO, Nowshad and Business Director, Mike! We shot some fun stuff for our TV show, MissMalini’s World too! MissMalini started out in a red Vero Moda shift dress with some lace trimmings…
But the clothes hanging at the store were too enticing not to throw on, so she ended up like this…
While the team took in the colours that filled the black and gold store in the form of Khandwala’s designs, we sipped away on some bubbly and bumped into the usual suspects as well…B
Blunt’s Adhuna Akhtar came in too; she spotted a dress she fell in love with and wouldn’t let it out of her sight all night long.
Good thing we didn’t carry our favourites around with us – We would have emptied the racks.
Priyanka Bose twirled around in her favourites from the store as well. She came dressed in Payal Khandwala and through the slit of her electric blue dress we saw an interesting pair of shoes…
We needed a better look and Priyanka being the rockstar that she is happily obliged.
Here’s what we thought of the store:
When I entered Payal’s flagship store I felt like I had walked into a super artsy New York loft apartment! I loved the way her clothes were arranged front and centre in a rainbow array and the massive gold framed mirrors were just stunning. I immediately put on a gorgeous green ensemble (her take on the classic jumpsuit!) that was super comfy and SUPER cute! I also love that her husband Vikram is her rock and was there playing host right alongside her on his birthday :) awww!
I am so excited for this store for so many reasons. Firstly, I adore Payal as a person and as a designer. She has her own unique take on clothes in an easy and fun way. I love the space especially for it’s decor. It’s roomy which mean you can play dress-up with the garments and dark walls let the colourful clothes just jump at you! I’m afraid I just might spend a little too much time at the store. Payal, I hope you have security because I may NEVER leave!
A 150 year old building, the staircase leading up to the store and finally the loft-like feel behind the doors – I could imaging living in a space like this, yes, with the clothes there too! I loved that she had her studio in the back as well and while the store was black and gold, her studio, quite the opposite, was white!
There were big antique mirrors around the corners, mannequins that had the look of the moment and multi-coloured clothing on racks that promoted the store’s brand identity. I was in love!
The Payal Khandwala store had me coveting the loose-fitting silhouettes and draping that are so on trend for this fall/winter. The entire collection flows so beautifully, but each individual piece makes a comfortable, chic statement that can easily transform from loungewear to formal wear.
Address: 1st Floor Grant Building, 17 Arthur Bunder Road, Opposite Café Basilico, Colaba.
If you’re in the area, or even if you’re not – this is one store you need to take a look at.
