Happy Diwali you guys! I’m sure you must have got that ‘don’t burst a pataka, date one‘ Whatsapp forward from a 100th person by now, that’s why I’ve come up with this marvellous (in my opinion) list which is basically a compilation of the most badass patakas I’ve seen on-screen. Seriously, some female characters are portrayed so well that one can’t help but marvel at their greatness. Basically, this list is a tribute to the ladies I have loved, watched and gotten inspired by because of the sheer badass-ness of their characters! Check it out. Also remember, you should totally date a pataka, but never, ever mess with one!!!

1) Hermione Granger

The cleverest witch of her age, Hermione Granger is everything a girl should aspire to be. Intelligent, dedicated, loyal, honest and a perfect punch thrower! Never mess with this pataka, she can show the richest and most influential boy in her school, his place!

2) Scarlett O’ Hara

Vain, shallow and decidedly anti-heroine, are just some of the terms that are often associated with the main character of the epic book/movie Gone With The Wind, but that’s exactly why she’s so cool!  Scarlett O’Hara showed the women in her era that there’s strength in being practical, shrewd and strong-willed. With that strength she managed to shoot a Yankee didn’t she?!

3) Lisbeth Salander

I don’t even need to say why Lisbeth Salander is easily one of the fiercest girls I have ever seen and those poor souls who are waiting for David Fincher to make a sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (like I am), let’s just hope and pray it happens soon!

4) Amy Dunne

The main protagonist of the upcoming thriller Gone Girl will mess with your head, but everyone who has watched her performance or read the book will unanimously agree to the fact that ‘Amazing Amy‘ cannot be messed with. Just cannot. No.

5) Sonia Roy

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra slayed us with her performance as Sonia Roy, the manipulative, scheming and super sexy antagonist from Aitraaz. Who could blame Akshay Kumar? This girl could ruin lives if she wanted to! It took another woman of substance (played by the rocking Kareena Kapoor) to defeat this pataka in her own game! As they say… only a woman can defeat another woman!

6) Reshma

Vidya Balan

The ‘silkyReshma from The Dirty Picture did everything she shouldn’t have done and yet she rose like a phoenix amongst all those haters trying to bring her down! It takes guts to break the shackles and this lady did exactly that.

7) Blair Waldorf

Never mess with the Queen B.

8) Cersei Lannister

Ah Cersei Lannister! Just look at her swag! Why would anyone mess with her? Look what happened to poor Ned Stark. As I said before, never mess with a Queen.

9) Lisa Rowe

Angelina Jolie

She stole the show in Girl, Interrupted with her crazy, unhinged and mostly horrible behaviour but out of so many powerful characters in the movie, she’s the one who stood out and for good reason!

10) Nina Sayers

Natalie Portman

You can’t really mess with a person who’s so messed up herself! I really hope she survives in the end though, what do you think?

11) Shivani Shivaji Rao

Rani Mukerjee

I cannot describe the agony I went through due to my inability to whistle while watching Rani Mukerjee do her thang in this movie. If I could, you’d be embarrassed to sit next to me during Mardaani.

12) Geet Dhillon

Kareena Kapoor

Main apni favourite hoon‘, this line should be the mandate of every girl in the world! Also, if you mess with Geet, be prepared to hear a tirade of the choicest abuses you must have heard in your life. That girl can put a sailor to shame, after a little prodding of course!

13) Veronica

Deepika Padukone

The move where Deepika Padukone showed us why she deserves to be the superstar she is! I personally think Cocktail was one of the few movies that accurately describes a strong, independent and amazing woman of today. I have very conveniently deleted the second half from my memory though.

14) Veera Tripathi

Alia Bhatt

The climax scene in Highway where Veera confronts that disgusting uncle of hers and her entire family for remaining tight-lipped when they were aware of the abuse she went through as a child still gives me goosebumps. Alia Bhatt played this pataka guddi to perfection.

15) Arya Stark

If a girl has a list of people he wants to kill and if she uses the term Valar Morghulis (which means all men must die) on a regular basis, I wouldn’t want to mess with her.

What do you think? Feel free to add your own list of patakas!
