Is Beautiful Hair Minus The Use Of Shampoo A Reality?

Beautiful Hair.
Beautiful Hair.

This wave of a hair-care method, popularly known as the “no poo” method, has taken the Internet by storm. A whole lot of women are ditching their shampoos in order for thicker, fuller, and healthier hair, au natural. So I’ve decided to go through numerous women’s experiences with the no poo method to break down how exactly you can follow this method and whether it actually works!

Beauty experts and dermatologists alike have been researching the reality of hair that isn’t chemically treated and we’ve all heard the benefits of going natural. The sulfates and chemicals in shampoo can often be too harsh on our hair, but without shampoo how do we maintain cleanliness?

1) Use Shampoo To Begin With

No, I’m not trying to be confusing. Just once before you begin this method, wash your hair with a sulfate shampoo to get clean and wash out any remaining product.

2) Trim

3) Use A Shampoo Replacer

There are a couple of options here, so use whatever suits you. You can try a mix of the juice of one lemon mixed with equal amounts of conditioner. You can also try a tablespoon of baking soda mixed in a solution of warm water. There’s also the white vinegar or apple cider vinegar rinse (don’t worry, the smell goes away as your hair dries … if you don’t use too much). I prefer using the rinse as a conditioner, afterwards.

4) Use A Conditioner

This is optional.

5) Detangle your hair using fingers or a wide-toothed comb.

Do this gently.

6) Cold Rinse

Finish of by rinsing your hair with cold water because this reduces frizz.

7) Use A Leave-In Conditioner Or Serum

This means, avoid using hair wax or spray for a while, basically nothing that’s heavy on silicones and sulfate. What you should use, is a little leave-in conditioner at the ends.

This method usually takes 2 – 3 weeks for your hair to adjust to. It’s normal for your hair to be a little extra oily because your oil production might go into overdrive to cope with the change. Try wearing your hair tied in a braid or low pony, so that your hair doesn’t look to greasy. Don’t tie it up too tight because this pulls at your hair follicles.

The method has worked for thousands of women, the world over, but the only way to really know if it works is if you try it out for yourself. What do you think? Would you try out the “no poo” method.
