Boney Kapoor and Sridevi
Boney Kapoor and Sridevi

Happy birthday Boney Kapoor! Hope this year is amazing for him (actually this year is ending so I hope the birthday wishes stretch to 2015 as well). Tevar looks awesome and the future looks bright, but the best thing about being Boney Kapoor is the fact that he’s married to Sridevi! Seriously, she is one of the best things to happen to Bollywood and here are 10 points that’ll prove the fact that he’s Lucky Boney:

1) The time she was the most fierce Nagina in the whole wide world

I don’t think Boney would ever argue with his lovely wife, all she has to do is make him watch Nagina again.

2) The time she played complex characters with so much ease

Sadma was one of the most sensitive, soul-touching movies that had brilliant performances by Sridevi and Kamal Hassan. I still cry at the end of this one when she recovers from her illness and forgets who her saviour was while he’s just standing there. Okay I won’t write further, or else I’ll start crying.

3) The time she told her admirers they ain’t gettin any!

Listen guys, she was never easy, and Chaalbaaz was and will remain one of the best movies on identical twins (and Bollywood has made MANY movies on that topic). Kisi ke haath na aayegi yeh ladki, except Boney’s hands. Told ya, he’s a lucky man!

4) The time she was Hawa Hawai-ing like a star

That outfit, that headgear, those lyrics! No can could pull that off expect her. Tell me one actress who can lip-sync convincingly to these lines:

Lak Chiki Lak Chiki Chiki Lak Choom Choom

Can’t find any, can you?

5) The time she made ’80s Bollywood somewhat bearable

Most of these movies worked because of Sridevi’s presence in them! I’m looking at you Himmatwala (the original one).

6) The time she took up roles which would have been considered controversial even in this day and age

A girl falls in love with a man double her age, who used to be in love with her mom. Sounds like a French movie, doesn’t it? It’s actually a Hindi movie, Lamhe, and she was one of the few stars who was bold enough to take up a role like that.

7) The time she oozed sex appeal without even trying

Alisha Chinai‘s husky voice, Laxmikant-Pyarelal‘s music, Sridevi in a blue saree and an invisible Anil Kapoor. However weird this song sounds on paper, we all know it scorched the screen when it released. It still has the power to scorch up your YouTube screen, yes.

8) The time she sold off her husband like a boss

Judaai is the most underrated movie in the world; it deserves a cult status and I will not rest till it gets one! I mean, it’s kinda crazy… Sridevi sells off her husband (for 2 crore rupees, no less). Urmila Matondkar returns him after he gives her a baby. Anil Kapoor has no say in this whatsoever. It’s madness. #LoveJudaai

9) The time she played a boss lady with aplomb

Move over Beyonce, we have our original #BossLady who was fierce as hell in Laadla. She was so cool, I had to add sunglasses (on MS Paint, no less) on her face because of the shade she was throwing!

I know the sunglasses are lopsided, but I imagined them to be just like that (it has nothing to do with my horrible drawing skills).

What a graceful comeback! Sridevi proved yet again why she’s considered to be the first female superstar in India. I think I’ll watch English Vinglish again tonight 🙂

Don’t you agree with me? Isn’t Boney Kapoor a lucky man?
