The story has repeated itself, especially when it comes to the very genre of ‘masala’ commercial entertainers. Happy New Year saw backlash from quite a few critics, even though this time around many did agree that it would go on to earn some big moolah at the box office. This is exactly what happened as the film sustained quite well after a record breaking opening. Into its third week now, the film has almost touched the 200 crore mark. No wonder, she doesn’t miss the presence of four or five star reviews for her film.

Farah Khan says:

“Puhleeze don’t give us five star reviews. I think a film is doomed when it gets five star reviews, it means that only a select handful people are going to see it. You know, this star rating business continues to perplex me. I won’t say that only art-house or offbeat films get such high ratings. Sometimes I see even hardcore commercial films with a big star getting five star reviews and then critics so nicely and kindly say that ‘arrey, yeh toh badi picture hai, issme script nahi chahiye‘. Then sometimes they say that your film is bad because it doesn’t have script. Frankly, I do believe even the most hardcore commercial film needs some script at least. Aisa thodi hota hai ki ek gaadi aayi, bomb se udhaaya aur action ban gaya.”

Each of her films with Shah Rukh Khan, be it is Main Hoon Naa, Om Shanti Om or now Happy New Year, has been mounted on a huge scale. Doesn’t she ever feel like making anything small, just for a change?

“I would consider doing something smaller only if I find a script which I absolutely love,” says Farah, “Sometimes when I see a set of my film swarming with crowds, I feel that in my next movie I too would take it easy and will just have two people in a room conversing with each other.”

She adds with a chuckle, “In any case such boring films get critical acclaim also. I too will impress a handful of critics and get good reviews. Achcha hai, woh bhi dekhne ko milega.”
