Comic affair Golu aur Pappu, which is led by Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapoor with Dimple Kapadia in a strong supporting role, is finding an abrupt release this Friday. No wonder director Kabir Sadanand is upset. When Fugly released earlier this year, they had managed to promote it decently and find some good coverage for it. But with the sudden arrival of Golu aur Pappu, one wonders whether Kabir Sadanand will still be smiling.
“There are quite a few films that arrive without any promotion; it is understandable. However most of these are nondescript affairs with no backing or presence of any notable name. But you can’t expect the same for a film which has a decent starcast and a filmmaker who has been in the business for a decade. Alas, but it is true that out of the blue this film has been slated to arrive without any promotion whatsoever,” a source says.
Shockingly enough, at the time of going to press, even the theatrical promo of Golu aur Pappu was hardly available online. All that one sees is a solitary First Look poster that features Vir and Kunaal in a cartoon set up as well as a stray promo on a site with the release date announced as 21st November.
Now that one could well be one oops moment for all involved with the film. As for Vir and Kunaal, aka Golu and Pappu, they could well be expecting a ‘happy ending’ too along with the Saif Ali Khan starrer.
